Removable battery and sd card are a joke.

I personally know about 5 - 10 people who don't buy phones if it can't take an SD card : just sayin

Make me No. 11. Sorry, I like being able to boost storage. My Note 2 is happily rocking a 64 gb Sandisk. If it takes a few minutes longer to transfer files from my comp to my phone, thats fine, I always give myself a bit of extra time as is. I also like storing a LOT of movies on there.

Sounds more like a thread made to justify getting a Htc One.

I personally am not bothered by removable batteries, Samsung always release an extended batt pack for their phones which makes it nice to upgrade to if I play on settling with my phone for the long run e.g. 2years. I know when I get the GS5 I'll be using it for +18months as late 2014 to 2015 will be very busy times in my life as I leave university, move into my own place and get to grips with my career, so I will keep my GS5 for quite a longer time than usual and in late 2014/early 2015 I'll get it the Samsung batt pack to keep it going :)

MicroSD is very important to me. I have a GS4 32GB +32GB MicroSD, 32GB alone isn't the sweet spot for me, sorry! I love having my media: Music, Movies, stand up comedy shows, series etc etc... all at my finger tips, especially if I'm out somewhere on holiday with weak data connection, I like to use my GS4 as a media player.

USB OTG is great but I'm not carrying a damn cord everywhere I go, why do that when I can get a 64GB MicroSD and have 96GB of storage at my finger tips without plugging anything in!

I'm glad you're happy with your Htc One and what it's missing, but I wouldn't manage with it.

I used to depend on getting a phone with microSD to store my music (~32GB), however knowing that's disappearing off the phone market, I got Plex and stream music off my laptop when I want to listen to some music.

There are still devices out there that still has the microSD feature, like the Galaxy Ace II.

I don't think sd cards are a bad thing, but they haven't been supported by Google in a long time. Samsung is really the only one that can't seem to grasp that. Sure they sell the most phones but it has very little to do with having an expandable memory option. They sell the most phones because they have the biggest marketing budget.

Google doesn't support them because they don't want to pay patent royalties to MS for the use of that type of storage.

Well to me the *cloud* is a joke. Spotty coverage and limited data plans make that not always able to access. Ya see it all depends on the user. personally I have never switched batteries but in the case the battery died a year down the road and I needed a new one it is much easier to go onto amazon or the likes order a new battery, pop out the old one and in goes the new one compared to having to take it into store and have "techs" fix the non-removable battery. And as for SD cards, I somewhat agree with you about causing problems, but even if you can only put media on the device that frees up all that space for your apps and data which is what most use it for anyway.

Heres the thing with batteries:
Flagships today dont last a day on heavy usage, its natural to have the ability to switch batteries right?
Has nothing to do with changing batteries. It has to do with UPGRADING batteries.

I got an extended battery for my boyfriend's GS3 last year...he loves it. He is not a phone nerd. He just likes that he can charge it every other day or longer now. No phone with an embedded battery will ever match the same phone with an extended battery. So if battery life is a big deal to you, a phone with a removable battery can only be a good thing.

As a Nexus 5 owner, I really miss being able to use extended batteries. I could go days between charges on my HTC Rezound...those days ended with the Nexus 4 and 5.

Removable SD Cards is a more tricky situation, people want SD Cards because it is an assurance of seemingly unlimited storage. But for me, I began to see it as something which can be omitted. Removable SD cards have been problematic for me with my GS3
Then don't use them. Problem solved.

But if the phone has no option for SD, you will never be able to use it, even if you decide you want to deal with the "problems". I had SD on my Rezound and used the hell out of it. I miss it on the Nexus. It's not a deal breaker anymore, but something I would much rather have if I had a choice. Lack of SD is not an asset.

Unibody designs without removable sd cards and battery doesn't seem so bad considering these points.
I have had both types of phones. I prefer having SD and removable batteries. I applaud Samsung for sticking to their guns and giving the Android masses what they want.

Without removable batteries, phones can be constructed with more focus on designs that can be seen in the Iphone series, xperia series, One series and Lumia Series which make the Galaxy series look like a toy.
To me it is the opposite. Removing functionality for aesthetics makes those phones seem more like toys IMO.

As for extended memories, 32 GB is the sweet spot.
No, it is not. It is the "barely adequate spot".

Phones without removable batteries and sd cards are the joke. Try selling ur phone that has a half dead battery and woefully inadequate storage when its time to upgrade. U might as well just throw it a way no ones going to buy it. You must have never had a external battery charger so u can switch batteries effortly because if u ever did u would quickly see the utility. I can go from zero percent to 100 percent in 30 seconds by switching the battery out. How long does that take u two hours ? What a joke.

Replaceable battery and expandable storage are 100% completely PRO consumer in every single way and it's best for us in every single way. There's no con to it. There's no disputing that.

Someone might not care for it but it doesn't change that it's what's best. And definitely no one should want for them to no longer exist. That would just be dumb.

i think you read my post a little to quickly i was talking about water damage with removable battery vs nonremoveable battery
if you get water in your phone and u dont have a removable battery you are screwed, If you have a removable battery, can can remove it quickly, and have a better change of no damage.

I like having options...started with 32gb card...moved up to 64gb.
Choose what you want but I prefer flexibility. It is simple... choice

It shouldn't... It is as incorrect now as it was in 2013. Badly stated, Ill conceived, and a general waste of electrons.

Julian should not have revived it.

I agree, it concerns me this was ever in question seeing how every flagship this year has at least external storage.

Give me back my unlimited data and I'll stream everything and your mom from the cloud, but until then 2gig is not enough to realistically replace SD card storage. Especially with non SD card phones with 8 gigs of internal storage .

Battery can stay in forever. Doesn't matter.

I normally use my larger battery on trips knowing I'll be out all day and not near a charger. It's going to vary from person to person but having the option is nice and being able to throw in a 6400 mah battery is nice as well.

I do prefer the phone to have the option of a sd card slot, suppose you buy a phone with no sd card slot; you fill up your internal storage, you subscribe to dropbox or one drive for more storage; now your cloud storage is filled. Sd card slot has flexibility and ready available, they cost next to nothing to buy (as long as it is a reasonable trusted name brand). Removable batteries, it does not matter as long as there a way to soft reset in a event of mild faults.

I have an LG G3. It shoots video up to 4K. Very large files. I can put in a 128GB SD card, store tons of personal videos that I can then cast to screens at home.

Taking photos and shooting videos on this phone is a delight. That means users are inclined to use up lots of storage doing it. Cloud storage is great, but for large, high resolution photos and video, I prefer local storage.

My two cents.

Oh and when those new lithium ion batteries with the new diodes that last three times as long as current batteries hit the market, it will be nice to know I can simply buy one and slap it in.
