Any way to remove or disable them? I dont want a preview of a text message or anything like that. I just want my phone to beep and leave it at that.

Yup, go into your Messages Settings, and near the bottom there should be a "Preview Message" option. Just clear that and it won't show.

No, that doesn't work, at least not on my freshly updated I747M with JB 4.3... all that does is remove the actual preview of the message from the banner that shows up in the right-hand pane of the lock screen. So instead of the banner that has the text message in it, now I have the exact same banner that just says "New Message" in it.

I would just like to get rid of this completely so that Dashclock can work as intended and show the notification, not the fugly samsung screen.

Cheers

EDIT: Just noticed that if I turn off notifications in the samsung sms app completely, then infact Dashclock does still see the notification and display it, but now I lose my vibrate and ringtone. I guess what I want is Dashclock to work, but also have the vibe/tone but NO samsung preview or lockscreen interaction. Anyone know if that can be accomplished?

So you essentially want what old phones used to do. No toasts? Just alerts but no preview

Ooooh, I see now. Sorry, that's a 'built in' Widget on the lockscreen (pretty much like the music player one... you can't get rid of it or control when it appears). Your only option would be to use a different lockscreen, but then you'd lose Dashclock.

Ok, I figured it out a pretty nice and simple alternative. Not exactly the way it used to be, but much closer to Stock 4.3, with the added benefit of lock-screen notifications that look *really* great instead of the way Samsung butchered them (have to keep reminding myself to move forward and not always look back):

1) Turn off *all* notifications from the Samsung messaging (sms) app and just forget it's there from now on.
2) Get and install 8sms from Google Play (this is a port of the stock sms app from kitkat 4.4), use this as the default "messaging" app from now on, tested it and it works perfectly.
3) Setup 8sms to use the dark theme which looks great, and turn on its notifications (sound, vibrate)
4) Put Dashclock on the lockscreen for the authentic and beautiful stock android look
5) Get Dashnotifier for Dashclock - this is an extension that lets you point it to *any* app - configure that to watch 8sms notifications

Note that Dashnotifier is supposed to be able to briefly turn on the screen when it sees a notification, just like the Samsung notifier does, but I am unable to get it to work - I believe it is a bug and will be fixed to work in a future update of the app.

Voila! this is a *very* nice setup IMO, and all of the replacement/addin apps are totally free (and ad free too)!

Just updated my GS3 wish I NEVER had. Samsung/Google need to get their **** together. To the dude sending from his gameboy. YES!!!!!!! We just want freaking alerts and nothing else. Think about the it every time your screen lights up there goes more battery life. Plus I don't want people knowing what type of messages are coming into my phone. I was stoked about the GS5 but is the OS on that is anything close to this POS keep the ******* thing. Maybe I'll take over my wife's phone that was not updated yet. ******* POP UPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree. I have contacted Samsung and it is impossible to stop it. Now I have all my missed calls notified on my locked screen. So any peanut can activate my screen and view all the people who have rung. Does Google realise we lock the screen to prevent that happening? This is a major compromise of privacy and client integrity.

For me, this is one aspect of iOS that is leaps and bounds ahead of most other OS'. In fact, if iPhone 6 is a little bigger than the 5S, I'm going back. If I want to "personalise" my phone, I'll just change the background. The screen aside, I struggle to find anything else to praise on this phone, I have lost the love.

I do not have a preview message option in message setting (not at the bottom, not at all) I have a DROID RAZR MAX. Any suggestions on how I can get to the preview messages option?

Yes. Go to sound and notifications to disable.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Now I feel much better about my phone. I searched the net and am glad I found you.

Thank you for showing how to remove notifications from the lock screen! This happened to me after the most recent update to my Note 3. I really just want to see the photo of my dog on the lockscreen, not a bunch of notifications!

I would just like to share with how I got these lockscreen notifications off my Note 4 KitKat. I did not want to update to Lollipop as not keen on the layouts. So anyway. When you have the notification (mine was done when a facebook notification came through to my lock screen) there will be 3 small dots in the top right of that notification. You click onto that and it gives you the option to turn these notifications off. I have just got someone to text me and all it says is New Message on the lock screen. Not a problem as no information of who has sent the message or what it entails but I am sure there will be a way of turning this off too, most likely from the messaging area of the phone. Hope this helps someone else out :-)
