So my husband and I just got our new Maxx's from Wirefly and activated them yesterday with Verizon. We had planned to update our plan as required (decided to do 6gb data pkg) but the rep said it was letting us keep our unlimited data. She even said, "Well, that is strange...it shouldn't be doing that...but we'll just leave it then!".

I thought maybe it was because we purchased through Wirefly although we paid the subsidized cost ($199) and renewed a 2yr agreement. On Verizon's billing, it shows our new phones with a new 2yr contract with Unlimited data ending in 2015.

Did we just get really lucky?

from what I've read on this forum and it seems like 50% truth on here when it comes to Verizon reps. But supposedly if you upgrade with a 3rd party your able to "keep" unlimited until Verizon goes through and changes it manually to a tiered plan. So just keep those fingers crossed. It might be a "bug" on Verizon's end which we would all need to exploit asap. But keep us updated, when is your first month over? I feel like once you start a new billing cycle and its still unlimited then we all will be sure.

Not sure about your data plan but you were also lucky to get it for $199.:)

We are in the middle of a billing cycle right now I think, so it will be at least a couple of weeks before I know for certain our unlimited won't change. I personally don't care either way, but my husband doesn't want to let it go. Hopefully the first new bill will be the same. :)

I too kept my unlimited plan and got the 2yr price from a local authorized retailer (non-corporate). I had to temporarily root to enable wifi tether, but that was no big deal.

I think I have a clue to what is going on (I only know what, not why). Yesterday afternoon (Sept. 28) , we went into our local Verizon corporate store. We wound up with the same rep that put us into smartphones over two years ago. She remembered us and could not believe it had been two years. I had already decided on a MAXX, but my wife was unsure about what would replace her dying HTC Incredible 2 (3G). She also decided on the MAXX.

We were prepared to pay full retail, when the rep offered us an "undocumented" upgrade for "loyal" customers (we have been with Verizon since they were Airtouch). Pay the upgrade price renew for two years, keep the current plan (1400 shared voice, $10.00 for 500 texts), but we would get 6GB data allotment per month for EACH device (We are currently averaging just above 3GB total).

Anyway we went though with that, but it shows up on our contact receipts as Unlimited data. The rep saw this, and did not seem too surprised, but said she was not gong to try to change it, because that was what the system gave her. I think she had already seen this happen earlier in the day, but didn't want to say anything before she completed the transaction in case it was a one-time glitch.

I just pulled up my account on-line - it shows the two Droid MAXX phones, 311 of 1400 minutes used, 57 of 500 texts, and 2.663 GB of Unlimited data used. Our billing cycle ends on the 7th of the month.
