Replacing display

About a week after getting my galaxy S4, disaster struck and the phone slipped out of my pocket while I was installing a new radio in my wife's car and hit the pavement screen first...
The screen was cracked, but the phone still worked, so I figured all I have to do is to replace the glass.
Long story short, after I attempted the repair the display no longer turns on. The phone seems to be booting up OK, it makes the start up sound, the buttons light up when I press them but not the display. I doubled checked my work and everything looks OK.
To make things worst, when I replaced the glass I found that the digitilizer is also cracked and I managed to bend the frame a bit while I was trying to separate the glass from the digitilizer.

What are my options at this point?
1. The display gets power from the side connector - the one by the volume button right? If I can get it to turn on, I can use it with the new glass even though the display is cracked.
2. I looked for a screen assembly on ebay but those retail for $280. Any other place I can get one?
3. Sell the phone for parts - is there a way to reset it without the display working?

It looks like you're in pretty bad shape....someone put a link up where a while back for a service around (I believe, don't quote me on this number) $250 and they cover shipping to and from you to fix the screen.

If you want to clear it, at this rate since the screen is DOA, the farthest you could go would be plug it in with the micro USB and clear all the data you can, which actually should be a lot. It certainly won't be factory reset but it will remove some stuff. Or if the phone is theoretically responding you could navigate the cold boot menu blind and pick the factory reset option, however confirming if it worked would be difficult. The most you could see would be the folder status. However I don't even know if you can access your folders as you can't browse the device via USB without the phone being unlocked in the first place, and since you can't unlock it with the screen dead you might be in more trouble.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you may very well have hit a bit of a roadblock here. :-\

I knew it's bad news the moment I saw it hit the pavement . If I can get the complete display assembly, I can pull out the motherboard and the cameras / sensors and transfer them to the new case, but I don't feel like spending $280 on it...

I'd really search out that screen replacement service. I wish I'd have saved the link, but it was in one of the broken screen threads that's gone up recently. The guys said it included all service and the parts so that can't be that bad a deal I'd guess.

Did you not pick up insurance on it? Cheaper to replace it that way than paying to repair it from my experience of breaking past smartphones. You might even be able to pick up insurance on the phone even this late, I'd call your provider to see

I don't think you should be picking up insurance on the phone that you've already broken. I'm pretty sure that's fraud.

I asked about insurance before. It's a huge scam. $6 premium per month plus $199.99 deductible.
