With my s9 I was able to open messages and click the text field and hold down the Bixby button to speak my reply. This isn't working on my note 9. Any advice?

I know this reply won't be helpful, but I could never get this feature to work on my S9 Plus! I wish it did work on the Note 9!

It was an option that allowed you to dictate with the button when you had a text box selected. As far as I can tell, they removed that feature. I wish they hadn't, but it probably wasn't popular

I use the microphone for voice texting it works very well. I did try to do the Bixby button thing you mentioned and that doesn't seem to work. Sometimes when I'm driving I have my phone set up with Bluetooth through the stereo and my car will read the message if I press a button on the radio. If I want to reply to what I've listened to I just say hey Bixby send a message to insert contact name she'll ask what message and I'll mention the message or I'll just say it right after I tell her to make a message she asks if it's okay to send and I'll say yes or no based on how she dictated it

I actually really enjoyed the feature, and that's coming from someone who never used voice to text. It makes replying so much easier when I'm busy.
