Reset Nova as default launcher after every restart

I turn my Pixel 3XL off every night and charge it. That's what I've always done and it works for me.

Since the update to 10, after any restart, I have to go into Nova and set it to the default home. I select "always" every time.

I did read something around the launch of 10 about certain functions of third party launchers not being supported, but I didn't think I would have to reset every single time the device is restarted. Anyone else experiencing this?

I haven't had to do this at all. I don't regularly restart my phone, but I've done it at least 3 or 4 times since updating to 10. Nova still works as the default every time.

Well when i put in my PIN after a restart, it does go to the Nova home screen, but if I push the home button (the pill shaped one in the middle) it doesn't do what I have it set to do in Nova, for example swipe up for recently used apps. When I open Nova and go to the setting making it my default launcher, it is not selected. I then tell it to use Nova always, and it does, until a restart.

Very odd. I use Nova (Prime, beta version) and the 2-button nav like you and have restarted it a dozen or so times since the upgrade and have never had this problem.

Thoughts/Ideas

1) Back up your current Nova Setup and delete the app. Reload, reapply settings.

2) I'm guessing you have Prime.

3) see if switching to Beta tester tweeks it enough to make a difference?

It sounds like really it's a Pixel issue as it sounds like it's not saving your default setting in any enduring way. But the above is a lot easier than the dreaded... Factory reset.

I turn my phone off every night when I go to bed and power up in the morning. Never had a problem.

Once you're running with Nova, if you go to Nova Settings, go down to "Select Default Launcher", does it say "Nova Launcher"?

I am also running Nova Prime Beta on a Pixel 3. My first guess of a problem would be with Nova and I would probably uninstall and download again.

though I don't have a pixel or nova, I have had similar issues with smart launcher on my old tablet. found deleting system cache took care of the problem. maybe it will work for you. just go into recovery mode and delete it from there.

Hi. I have the same problem using Pixel 3 and Nova Launcher. I tried reinstalling NL. I did use a restore file from a Moto X4 phone. Maybe that created the problem.

did you try the other suggestions in the previous postings.

I had that issue in my pixel 4xl , you choose Nova default in Nova settings it doesn't stick so went to settings then apps>default apps and choose Nova as my launcher and didn't have that issue any more.

Thanks for the suggestion. I already have Nova set as the default home launcher app and still have the same annoying behavior.

I don't use Google gestures. On startup, none of the Nova settings, such as swiping up on the home button to see recent apps will work until I go in and set Nova as the default again. After that, they work perfectly until the next restart.

Can try Nova out of battery optimization?

No luck with that. When I have more time I'll reinstall Nova and see what happens.

I don't think uninstall will do anything might be a bug that Nova needs to fix , maybe send them a email see what they say , or try the beta version see if it does the same but definitely email them.

I have the same issue on the same phone but I am using Action Launcher. The dev of that app has no clue what the solution is.

Same issue here but with Action Launcher. I select "always" but it doesn't stick. This literally started today (1-25-2020) I have no launchers except the default OneUI installed and tried to switch to that and back. It won't "stick on either of them. I've cleared the system cache in recovery, reinstalled action launcher and started a new setup (not a restore from backup) but it still doesn't remember my selection. I installed Nova Prime and Evie as well just to see if I could trick it. They ALL do the same thing and won't remember the default. Even setting them as such in the settings/apps area as well. No idea what update caused this as I haven't installed anything. I've only had a couple updates in the last 2 days and they've been apps not related to the system at all like Facebook, Messenger and a few others. Very frustrating. I'm on a Note 10+ and not rooted or any of that silly crap lol. Stock as a rock so that's not an issue. It's totally widespread regardless if the phone or launcher but I'm stumped. Ugh....I even rolled back to a smart switch backup I made 4 days ago and that didn't help....seems there's some update that snuck in perhaps I've no idea but this is very weird.

Same here...just started today for me but I haven't done a thing to cause this. I'm thinking maybe a Google update or some update Android snuck in but clueless as to what. I run a super lean OS on my Note 10+ and have only had about 8 updates for apps in the last couple days but it just started doing this a couple hours ago and I haven't touched a single setting....very strange...almost concerned because I haven't touched anything.
