Good to finally have an android device :D

Rootzwiki.com is a good resource as is xda-developers.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

The Nexus 7 is at its core a Nexus... It is easy to root once you learn how to use ADB (Android Debug Bridge) command lines. Resources like this forum and places like Rootwiki are great and you will always find someone to help.

We'll have some resources for you as well, have no fear.

Right now, the basic way to do it is exactly like blackmannx said--use adb/fastboot, unlock the bootloader, fastboot flash a custom recovery, then flash the superuser zip.

Ok cool
Wow :D
I have alot of android jargon to catch up on :) good couple of days ahead :)

Since this is a big Galaxy Nexus, a lot of the principles apply. Check out my Don't Panic guide, it'll get you familiar with a lot of the concepts and terms we use when we discuss rooting, flashing, etc. etc.

Yeah cheers great help you should put it up as a sticky
I expect this could be one of the largest migrations to android in such a short period of time ever
:)

Yeah but like rename it and explain it can be used to explain the jargon for the nexus 7
i expect the forums will have alot of new uses asking about the potential of their new devices in the next couple of days and they'll want a to find a nice guide like this one
:D
