Are backups built into the system settings for Android phones restricted to only working with the same phone model or the same manufacturer? My Sony Xperia XZ Premium has issues where it charges very slowly, the battery dies unexpectedly, and it only powers on when connected to an AC adapter. I just performed a system backup (even though it already has scheduled backups) and can see the backup listed under the backups section of Google Drive.
I just purchased an LG V40 to replace the Xperia, but the LG says that there are no backups in Google Drive. Both phones are running Android 9.
The LG phone is an AT&T branded model that includes AT&T Mobile Transfer, but I downloaded the LG Mobile Switch (Sender) app on my Xperia that is another utility to transfer the data from another phone into an LG. Are apps like this the only way to transfer all the app data and message conversations between different phone manufacturers, or is something wrong with the backup/restore settings in one or both of my phones? I've previously only used this option to restore a backup to the same phone after performing a master reset.
