Hello,
So here I have a Vodafone UK HTC One M8 a while back I installed TWRP Recovery and rooted it, now I want to update it to 4.4.3 (currently 4.4.2)
and sell it. I have a nandroid backup of a HTC One M8 with my CID but I dont know how to restore this, as it is in .win format not .zip, ive also looked at RUU exe's that ive found on the HTC US site on the 'rom-downloads' page, will the 'unlocked/developer' ruu work with my UK Vodafone phone? and does an RUU remove custom recovery and root? What do you think I should do to get rid of this custom recovery?
Thank you so much in advance.
CID: VODAP001
MID: 0P6B10000
I need help asap! Thanks

I've never worked on an HTC, so take this for what it's worth - it's general.

I have a nandroid backup of a HTC One M8 with my CID but I dont know how to restore this, as it is in .win format not .zip,
Look in (and ask if you can't find it) the forums at HTC One (M8) - XDA Forums (I assume this isn't the Windows version, but the Android version) for information on restoring .win files.

will the 'unlocked/developer' ruu work with my UK Vodafone phone?
Maybe. I'd stick with a file for my specific model number phone (which should be in Settings/General/About device/Model number).

and does an RUU remove custom recovery and root?
Root, definitely, since it's the system area of the ROM that's rooted, so putting a different version of Android will "unroot". (Actually, an update should fail if it finds signs that the phone has ever been rooted, because updating a phone that's had some system files modified while it was rooted could brick it.)

As for the custom recovery, most ROM flashes (that's what you're doing - flashing a 4.3 ROM) flash the stock recovery too but, as I said, I've never done an HTC. Ask the people on XDA who have. (There's nothing like having done it to know what happens.)

What do you think I should do to get rid of this custom recovery?
See above - ask the people who own one (many of whom know the internals of the phone as well as the people who designed it).

We help with the simple things - wet phones, deleted pictures, bricked phones. They can help you with the difficult things - like "how do I find the name of my data partition and dd it to a file?" Anyone here who has flashed an HTC M8 a few times could probably answer your question - and might jump in here and do so. Any of the developers there can and will.

Thank you so much for the advice, I managed to remove the custom recovery but am still stuck with root, I tried to reflash twrp to flash the unsuperuser, but it then put my device into a boot loop, I might just wait this out and get the new nexus at the end of the year. Thanks
