[Retired ROM] Aphrodite 2.0.1 w/Xionia 010 (13apr11)

Get Titanium backup or Mybackup Pro (what I use) and learn to use it. I can usually swap in about 20 minutes. Including a quick backup and nandroid first.

I'll have to check out Mybackup Pro. I use Titanium backup now but I find that some of my apps end up not working right and doing a lot of force closing when I restore them. Maybe I'll have better luck with Mybackup :)

I only have one nandroid backup which is from when I did my original right after rooting. I like to keep that one just in case I screw something up I can go completely back to stock.

Thanks for your advice Leslie. :)

Certain programs are problematic on backup.

Angry birds can be sometimes.
Lookout, you can restore the data, but not the APK.

Figure out which ones and do them separate or just do data.

I have been trying to get 008 into an individual installer for the Optimus V, but whenever I install it over Rodimus or the stock rom, it hangs on the boot animation. So however you got this to load, I give you props.

I finally caved and installed Aphrodite because I wanted to test out the kernel. So far I am not that impressed. 005 felt a lot snappier. I still need to adjust the settings, overclock, and do some tweaks. I want to make sure this is what you are seeing as well and not a problem with my install.

I remember you or someone mentioning a problem with 013 and rebooting. I assume that is why you switched to 008. Can you elaborate on that?

First boot is (quite) slow, after that it runs a bit faster.

It takes more than just the kernel or even Zefie's kernel installer to get this to work. You have to do an S to V conversion, then install Zefie's 008 bootimg kernel and the files.

There are times where this feels normal, and there are times where it feels sluggish. I'm still looking for a better kernel. 013 , when using certain overclocking tools (setcpu for one), when the system loads to max speed for more than a few seconds it can cause a reboot. 013 also has sdcard and usb storage problems (I pointed these out in your thread). I do agree, I think 005 is a bit better all around, but this is a stepping stone to getting something newer and is just an alternative. With overclock it runs fine, I'm not sure it's faster though. I only just got Linpack and I haven't run any tests on any of the other roms or kernels yet.

Did you try the version of 013 that I posted? I have been overclocking with it without issue on 013 for a while now. I have mine set to 806 MHz max/min interactive. I used the any kernel version as opposed to the boot.img version which changes the boot animation.

I may switch back to 005 for now. 008 is too sluggish when I'm scrolling.

Yours was better, but I still had issues.
I couldn't get anywhere near what I could with 005 or 008 in overclock before the system woudl just restart.

2.0.1 is up, it's using Marzz's Xionia 010 kernel now.

Give it time to boot, it seems good after that. This was rushed out, so little testing has been done so far but seems fine and safe, even shows a decent Linpack speed (better than 008 or 005 if I remember correctly, but I could be wrong).

Update:
One thing I noticed on newer kernels is that when you switch to wifi with Quick Settings, it doesn't indicate that 3g is off, even though the icon disappears from the taskbar. It can take a while to disconnect as well when it does.

Seems the overclock sensitivity from 013 is back as well.

Hey thanks for the update LeslieAnn!! I'm finally sick of not having bluetooth voice and the other problems CM7 has. I'm moving back to froyo and going to try and impliment some of the better things from CM and Gingerbread as I try to find a perfect setup. I have decided to go ahead and use your ROM! I will be flashing it over shortly and will report back with any issues. What do you mean by "overclock sensitivity"? How does it handle setcpu? Have you tried running it around 800mhz and play any games? I usually only OC it for when I am gaming, rest of time it stays at stock or maybe a little bit higher. I'm going to create a ext2 partition and give data2ext (ext2 version) a try also. I'm currently using Zef's CM7 (V) with data2ext (ext4) version. Do you have any plans to maybe add ext4 support in your ROM? would that be something that falls on the kernel side or is that something that can be added in through /system/ ? I know froyo itself does not support ext4 and gingerbread does, but I "think" I have read about other froyo roms (for other devices) supporting ext4 partitions. If there is anything you want me to test out tonight send me a PM. I'll be up late ;) thanks again! :D

ps: is it possible to flash one of the other Xionia kernels Mmarz put together without messing up your setup? just incase I have o/c issues.... (thanks mmarz for those btw!)

Marzz's kernels should work fine, he is working off the work I performed earlier which became the basis for this rom actually. Basically we have been trading info back and forth. This is his 010 stuffed onto Aphrodite 1.3.3 basically.

Stock + Xionia seemed the most stable and the further I deviate from that, the lower my stable overclock becomes. I'm not sure if it's because of a specific tweak or if it's the phone just aging. I'll know more about this rom in a few days.

I use SetCPU, and on mine, after 005 I get less and less stable overclock the higher I go on the kernel number. It will be fine but if it stays at 100% load for more than a few seconds it will crash. I have been told some of the other overclock systems, one being a widget I guess, actually is more stable. Other times it just reboots at random.

I haven't really messed with ext stuff, so I can't help you there at all. I did look at it at one point and it seemed like it would be a hassle to incorporate into the rom. I could see a lot of people messing up their phones, but it could have been a different system I was looking at.

Regardless, Aphrodite will stay as it is, a stripped basic rom for people to build on top of (it may get a 2.3 version before long). I am considering a themed and tweaked rom, but it will carry a different name, I'm just looking for the right idea for it. I'm in no rush really, I'm content with the roms I've made already. Others seem happy with them as well.

toggle2g compatibility please?

Hello Leslieann

I've been using your rom for a bit, and like it a lot, but there is one thing I miss from my previous rom, the aosp cyanogenmod, it was the ability to install this program that automatically toggles from 3g when the screen is on to 2g(1x) when the screen is off:

[APP] Toggle 2G/3G (Home widget&Tasker/Locale plugin) [v0.0.15 / 04-06] - xda-developers

Is there any way you could make your roms compatible with Toggle2g?

No, that only works on Cyanogen based roms.
There isn't even a working Cyanogen Froyo rom for out phones yet.

There is probably a similar app out there somewhere that could do it, but whether it would work with our phone is difficult to say.

Battery life seems fine.
I'm not sure how it compares to Rodimus though.

I'm still getting a daily reboot but that is probably my overclock and SetCPU causing that. Newer kernels than 005 are more sensitive.

Great rom. Any chance of picasticks kernel comming to this rom? And any chance of a reboot/recovery selection in the power off option?

The rom is being done as we speak.
Not sure about the on off recovery, I usually use Anreboot.

I use quick boot but was just a suggestion lol. Keep up the awsome work. Comming from an optimus s seems like the v roms are more stable.

SQUEEE-!

*ah-ahem* Excuse me. Now, then...

My only request is just keep it as lean as possible, if I had a counting vote (I wouldn't expect to, just sharing it anyway!)

If I *had* to request anything, a black notification bar with white text that was cookable-friendly in UOT would be top notch.
Yep.
I'm a man with simple tastes.

Either way, stoked about the upcoming LeslieAnn/pickasticks megaROM of Doomy-Doom.

...or something... ;)

-K

That would be cool with this if possible if not its cool love the rom reguardless. +1

Bumblebee rom is more or less just a carrier for the kernel.
He took Stock + Xionia and mostly just changed the Kernel (near as I can tell).

While originally built from it, Aphrodite is quite different from Stock + Xionia, even the standard version that uses the same kernel. A lot more was removed, lots of improvements, and a kernel change.
