OK, I admit, I am a bit of a perfectionist and always questioning if I should or shouldn't have done something. Should I keep 2 XL even with display issues? Should I get regular Pixel 2, even though it is small and as easy to read as larger one (coming from 6p and OG Pixel XL)? Always doubting if make the right decision.

In the end, while I could live with the blue shift, the lack of consistent knowledge from googles support on several issues (they use the term "sharp angle", but refused to tell me what that meant...after almost 2 hour chat as they pulled in several people) left bad taste in my mouth and decided to go return and go with regular Pixel 2. Save few dollars, enjoy no color shift as I sometimes read emails at an angle at desk, ...

I visited 3 Verizon stores, looking at the two side by side. 2 of the stores, the smaller phone looked great, but one store had bad screen - text was blurry and something was wrong with it. But still took the chance.

So Pixel 2 came in today. But to my surprise, the issue I am seeing is not blurry screen or anything like that, it is a blue shift that is almost as bad as the 2 XL. What the....!!! Shallow angle less than 30 degrees is shifts.

I did NOT see this in store nor heard of anyone else having this shift in the smaller phone, who's screen is made my Samsung. I am really scratching my head on this one. I understand a color shift on any phone at a steep angle, but why would one be at such a shallow angle for an amoled display...and where I have seen several other screens without this shift?

Anyone else with a recent Pixel 2 getting a color shift, especially as such a shallow angle? I am confused.

Hmm... guess my natural bad luck. :'( Well...darn!

Keep it for a little while to try out, then will decide to keep or back to 2 XL.

Thanks for the response.

I live quite far away from any places that sell smartphones (90 miles for third party stores, 200 miles from corporate stores) so I haven't been able to see any of these for myself. I ordered my Pixel 2 from Verizon and it looks from the same to better than my Pixel 1.

But today I had to go to the town that has a corporate store and a Best Buy. I went to Best Buy for something else and decided to see what all the hubbub was about. I looked at 4 phones, the Pixel 2, 2 XL, iPhone X, and Galaxy Note 8. From what I could see, all of them had some blue color shift, and all we're similar enough that I had a hard time saying which one were worse or better. And I took them to the point where I was looking at them sideways. And something to note, the Pixel 2 XL didn't have the update installed, the update notification was in the status bar, but it hadn't yet updated so that wasn't why the 2 XL want having the issue.

I have also looked at the phones I have right now (Droid Turbo 1 & 2, Nexus 6p, and Pixel 1 & 2) and all of them have some degree of color shift. This phenomenon, though a big deal currently, isn't a new thing. Look at reviews for older smartphones, specifically the display section and look for when they talk about viewing angles. Most of them describe some form of color shifting and how subtle or significant it is.

Personally, I think the reason we're seeing such a wide range of good and bad is that for whatever reason, the displays aren't performing uniformly. By that I mean that they're either not testing them, or they're leaving a lot of leeway in what is and isn't acceptable in terms of accuracy and performance.

My Samsung Galaxy S8 had a different hue at the top and bottom the the screen looking straight on, and a slight red tinge on both sides where the screen curved round. Every OLED-display phone I have ever owned had issues like this. Don't stress about it, just use the phone for its intended purpose. It really is a non-issue.

I got my Pixel2 Mini-Me last Friday (one week now). The shift I would say it has is the normal expected shift that any screen gets. It goes from sharp white to a slightly less white probably around 45 degrees or more. It's hard to really call it blue. My two previous 2XLs went to a harsh blue at 10-20 degrees. This is NOTHING like that.

You might have gotten a dud, especially seeing that you didn't notice it on others that you have seen.
