Returned My Pixel XL

Halo effect is unacceptable for a phone that price, got the iPhone 7 Plus.. Much happier.

I agree the flare is not optimal, but turning the lens to a different angle seems to be pretty effective. I have the black XL and maybe the flare is less frequent, but it still happens. Every rose has its thorns. You arguably have the best camera on a smartphone, yet it can occasionally be plagued by unwanted glare. Oy Ve!

Heard the iPhone 7+ has a very similar hallo effect as a matter of fact all phones do except the pixel is a bit more. Google acknowledge it and is working on a software fix. Good luck with your phone the iPhone 7+ is an amazing phone.

I have the iPhone 7+, S7 Edge, Note 7(yeah i know), V20 and the Pixel XL. The Pixel XL suffers from the ghosting/halo and lens flare far more greater than others. I don't think a software patch can fix it all too much as I personally think it's a design issue. The back glass seems to be a lot closer to the lens compared to the other devices and the glass is probably what's causing the ghosting effect and lens flare more so than the actual camera lens itself. I have until Wednesday next week to decide if I plan on keeping the Pixel XL. I agree that at this price point it's not worth this design flaw especially since the camera is a big deal for me and I use it a lot. I love the overall device but I think I'll just have to wait until the next version when these issues are ironed out. If the Pixel was probably $300 less then I can probably deal with it but not at this premium price tag when compared to others.

Could you try blackening the area right around the lens - shoe polish? - tape? - water color paint? If you can, it might prove/disprove your thought - just sayin'

prove or disprove, doesn't really matter at this point. I'm not going to risk the chance of being stuck with almost a $1K device to find out a future update doesn't actually fix the problem. If an update does fix it then cool I can at least purchase it again later on rather than be SOL.

I agree 100% -

The fix will only be for HDR shots, so that's also someting to keep in mind.

According to your post you spent approximately $4000 on phones in less than a year so you have me kinda curious why a $300 difference is an issue for you? Or did you mean you had, rather than still have those phones?

Lol, I test mobile security for my job and get them from my work but the Pixel XL was purchased by me personally since we get our devices mainly from AT&T.

I've owned the Pixel and the iPhone 7 Plus... the iPhone 7 Plus camera is better than the Pixel.

I also have the iPhone 7 plus and Pixel XL but keep coming back to the pixel because I love the pictures from my Pixel than my 7 plus. Only thing I miss is the 2x zoom from the second lens on 7 plus but the pictures just look gorgeous from my Pixel. Point, shoot and bam awesome picture. 7 plus is also great but still Pixel beats it for me.

Lucky for me I keep both of them and use them both 😂

Plex is amazing for this particular task. You just need to plan a bit ahead of time to allow time for the conversion.

Huge fan of Plex and have been building my digital library now for a while. I used that download feature for my kids tablets as we drove to Disney World this summer.

The wife is always very critical of these initiatives. She thinks I'm wasting time and money. But after the trip she said that Plex server was the best idea ever. She loves that it's gotten rid of the DVDs and furniture used for storage too

Generally at least 17 pieces of flair
