Re: Not impressed with the Photon...at all

Or they see the effect but like the phone anyway. I see it perfectly clearly, but that doesn't make my top 5 list of reasons to consider trading the phone in. So you see pixels? Big whoop. I find the screen clear and pleasant to read, pixels and all.

This is a perfect example of what I mean about different people liking different things and what may be important to one person may not be to another. Having said that, if a reviewer would overlook something as obvious as the screen, which you see every time you do anything, why be so picky about a feature you never have to see or use? Come on, we all know reviewers are a tough lot and it takes some pretty impressive specs and features to merit accolades from them. I guarantee if the EVO 3D had that screen they would have been all over it and would have been completely dismissed period. In fact they would have said something like, "the screen and obvious pixelation makes an already gimmicky device subpar and a downgrade."

Welcome aboard! It is natural to see a lot of posts of people with questions and problems, so I'm glad to see that didn't deter you from giving this phone a shot. It may or may not be for you but you have 30 days to see. I personally am enjoying the heck out of this phone, especially the mhl to mirror your phone to your tv. No problems or issues with mine and hope you have the same great experience!

Yes, I would agree that many reviewers were biased against the 3vo due to the "gimmicky" 3D features. The Engadget review was one of the shoddiest pieces of tech journalism I'd read in a long time, but it wasn't the only one. Note that Pentile screens have their fair share of media detractors, too (Droid Life's distaste is notorious, for example).

Personally I think both the 3vo and the Photon are great phones, and I'm seriously considering upgrading to one of them. I've been tempted to hold out for the Epic Touch (god that's an awful name), but... Samsung. Ugh. :(

I'll have a better idea about what the SGS2 phone is like when the reviews come out for the epic touch. the reason I'm saying this is that I fear that they are going to change the shap and form of the phone(s) for the US. with that said, it should be a great phone. my only thoughts sofar is that it should have the same hardware and software as the overseas models.

I will also remind you that in the past Samsung has a habit of not bringing fast updates to problems that may arise in their new phones. and while their screens look awesome for normal use, once to have to read type or watch a movie the lower res screen on such a large display may bother you.
note: my friend and I did a test yesterday with his lower res screen and mine while playing the same video game, and even he said that my higher res screen made the game look less jaggy and more impresive.

I also did my own battery test yesterday while streeming movies/video, playing video games, web, showing off photos/videos that I took, and a few phone calls. no heavy 4G just wifi at most. wit med use of the phone I got 14 hours before I needed a charge with my EVO3D. not bad for all that I did, so don't get scared of the poor battery reviws you are seeing with the e3d. the other phones are cool too. they all have their own nice things about them.

I've stayed away from Motorola phones since the first Razor every Moto phone I've ever had was a dog.

Here here! While I'm happy Myriam on Engadget is a big Android fan, her obsession with the Galaxy SII and her hatred of Sense is getting old.

Yeah, that was one beef I had with her review, but two bigger issues were her insistence on "terrible" battery life while running 3D features with all radios on, and not one mention of call quality. Hello, it's a cell phone, not a tablet.

Anyway. Enough harping on past grudges. The build quality of the MoPho seems pretty good from handling one (again) in the store yesterday. I haven't owned a Motorola phone since the StarTac days, so I have pretty fond memories of them (knowledge of the Razr iterations notwithstanding). My first Evo had light leakage and screen separation but was so awesome otherwise I quickly looked past those problems (and once they replaced the screen due to the dreaded B spot, it was flawless until Gingerbread killed it :'( ). The 3vo I manhandled in the store had a squeaky side, but I'm not going to judge all build quality based off a floor unit. It otherwise seemed fine to me.

At this point, I don't see going wrong with either phone so I'm calling in my fiance for her opinion. All else equal, why not? :D And maybe if she likes one, I can convince her not to jump ship to the iPhone!

Re: Returning the Evo 3D for the new Sprint Motorola Photon 4G?

Still trying to decide between the 2, it is difficult because they are both great phones. The haters for either side look like idiots, both phones are very good.

Go to a Sprint store and try them both for everything you do.

Ask the people at Sprint what one they like and why. Go to another and antoehr Sprint store.

In the end, it is really what feels best to you. As you said, both phones are very good.

Re: Returning the Evo 3D for the new Sprint Motorola Photon 4G?

Like they say, no way Jose.

Re: Returning the Evo 3D for the new Sprint Motorola Photon 4G?

Well I've had the Photon for a little over a week now, and I also have the EVO 3D. For the guys that kept the 3D instead of jumping to the Photon, you made the right decision. When comparing the 2 stock phones, I really find the Photon to be lacking in the software department. And if you're getting old and blind like me, and hold your phone up close, the pentile display doesn't look so good. But all in all 2 very solid phones from Sprint, and we'll have a 3rd to choose from soon.

Its sad that you guys really don't know what you are missing with the Photon.. This phone is so much better than the Evo3d.. I was an avid HTC fan before the Evo3d. They failed miserably with it. The photon is what the new HTC should have been

Re: Not impressed with the Photon...at all

I know I already posted an ultra long post of my thoughts on page 6, but I also want to state that nobody should lower thier standards and should return the phone if defective or not to your liking (ie: it's just not for you).

when I spend this much money on anything, with my limited budget, there is no way I would keep anything if it dosen't please me 110%.

--------------------------------------------------------------

let's take a look at a few things that we have all seen online with the evo3d...

first off, a gadget website complains about a battery test that lasts 14 hours....SHE HAD ALL THE RADIOS ENABLED, and TWITTER, (just not bluetooth), durring this test.
how is this battery life test bad? 14 hours with 4G and GPS turned on is outstanding for any phone.

in her second test she snapped about 80 photos and captured four short videos (about half of this content was in 3D). her battery went from full to 60% in an hour and a half.
how is 40 3D photos and 2 3D videos along with the rest bad for her battery test when everyone knows that shooting in 3D will drain your battery?
now I don't know about you, but when I used to shoot football games from the sidelines, even I didn't shoot 80 photos (with my motordrive firing away at 5 frames per second) in an hour and a half (ok, maybe I did, but would the avg person ever do what I used to do when I used to be a pro photographer?).
so basicly she had her screen on for almost 2 hours straight shooting 80 photos, 4 videos, half of them in 3D and she lost 40% of her battery...I'll bet all her radeos were turned on too. HOW THE HECK IS THIS BAD AGAIN, for any phone?

then she also hates sense 3.0...WTF?
it's so polished for any newbee to use. the evo3d is my first android phone and it's so mush better in my eyes then touchwiz and makes motoblur look like it's defective. as a tech geek who has built my own computers since 1988, you would think that I would be rooting my new phone shortly. but I love sense 3.0 so much that even my friends are amazed that I'm not going to any time soon, if at all. it just works great right out of the box and is far smoother then anything else out there at stock.

she goes on to say:
"The EVO 3D is a well made handset that improves upon the EVO 4G in terms of raw horsepower -- as such, it lives up to its flagship status. That being said, it's also a step back in some areas (the lack of kickstand comes to mind). While the qHD screen provides a welcome boost in pixel density, the overall display performance still lags behind the competition. Sense 3.0 leaves us cold..."
"...But our biggest gripe with the EVO 3D is its terrible battery life, which is even worse than what we observed on the already lackluster EVO 4G. "

huh, the display lags behind the compitition? the battery life is worse the the evo4g? is she kidding or is she getting payed under the table? I really want to know. I think Vick feels the same way and is why he posted his thoughts. other website reviews are not much better, so I wonder just like Vick, what is going on?
while yes there are a few bad evo3d phones or batterys that made it out to the public, I just can't understand the reviews I'm seeing online.

----------------------------------------------------

next, let's look at the votes from this poll...

http://forums.androidcentral.com/re...choice-awards-sprints-best-android-phone.html

over 40% of the voters claim that the evo3d is the best phone from sprint. not even 10% of the voters say the photon is the best. do you know what this tells me? it says that regardless of our thoughts, a whole ton of people ran out to get a evo3d and only a handfull of people went to buy a photon. I wonder why that is if the photon is that much better then the evo3d.../sarcastic

there is no perfect phone in my eyes for everyone. the photon is great for some people, the same can be said about the evo3d. that is what makes this world a great place...we have choices.
But I'm sorry to say that once again, nobody is lowering thier standards when thinking of buying or keeping the evo3d. that is just silly in my book.

This argument holds no wait..I wonder what the masses would say if they poll was Evo3d vs Iphone4? Of course if more users have the Iphone4 more would say the phone is better.
