Returning for 32 gb

I have a 16GB SGS3 I have well over 10GB of music and I don't use much app storage at all. I still have 12GB free on my internal SD. Yes those numbers are correct. I stream everything via Google music. You don't take that big of a hit, even if you don't have unlimited data.

I bought a 32 gig memory card so all music goes into there, all apps go into the internal memory. I tried google play but it made my internet run slow for some reason

^why couldnt you return the phone? Was it passed the 14 days? I am in love with this phone, I dont think i would trade it for anything else. Ive used the iphone 4s and now am thinking the iphone 5 will be far less superior than this. The system is butter smooth and i can pretty much do everything on it. I havent had any trouble with lag on any apps. Only problem is the battery life and the 16 gb memory.

yep...pass 14 days. I love the phone except the data goes directly to memory. I've seen people rooted methods that can't bypass this at all.

Today when I went for my upgrade the store Rep (who was a manager) told me not to get the 32gb because all it is is the 16gb phone with a 16gb sd card. Do they not know what they are really selling then? I passed it up because he told me to put my 32gb sd card from thunderbolt in.

I would run from any store where the salespeople didn't know the products they were selling.

But I'm confused about party of this discussion. Elsewhere on this site, as well as at other forums, I've read that the no-apps-to-SD limitation is part of ICS and JB. Google apparently is trying to phase out external storage on android devices.

The point being that this problem is neither manufacturer- nor carrier-specific.

Do you have a source for that or did you just jump to that conclusion? I think that external storage is one of Android's strong suits. While I'm not arguing that it is Google's fault that app-to-sd doesn't work, I think their reasoning for it is different. My guess would be because of decreased stability when trying to run apps from an sd-card (which may be one of many brands, speeds, or sizes) as opposed to running apps from internal storage, which is more easily standardized and controlled by the manufacturers.

It is definately an ICS issue. My Note was on gingerbread and i could put apps on the sd card, when it was new. After the upgrade to ICS, the option was gone. Some threads in these forums suggested an app called, of all things, app2sd. Some people that tried it said that even the app2sd did not work, so you can only guess that google removed the API's that allowed that function.

My guess would be for a better user experience, as in any computer, internal memory is faster due to it using the faster bus than external memory.

Those Bozos gave me the same line of crap.
I knew not to listen and insisted on a 32gb unit.

If you look at the Nexus line, they DON'T have external storage. Nexus S/ Galaxy Nexus (cdma/gsm), Nexus 7: no external storage. If the Nexus line outlines where Google wants Android to go , then it clearly shows that Google wants Android to move away from external storage. They won't strong arm OEMs from including external storage in their devices, but the software has started moving in the opposite direction, hence why ICS and Jellybean don't support apps to sd unless you root/hack ;)

I say 7 out of 10 will buy the 32GB over the 16GB...they're making all that stuff just so they can get rid of inventory...

Your wasting your time and money the 32GB model has a 16GB Micro Card included in the phone, 16GB internal and 16GB external= 32GB. You could buy a 16GB card on ebay for less than $50.00. FYI.

32gb model is all internal memory. No sdcard.

Basically more room for your apps without having to buy into a sdcard for extra storage.

I bought the 16GB model since I bought it outright. Amazon is selling it for $100 less than retail. The 16GB cost $599 while the 32GB would have cost $749. Not worth it for me when I've got a 32GB microSD and won't have more than 16GB of apps.

The rep was absolutely correct, what i can't believe is that people are paying $50 for a Micro SD Card. I have a 16GB blue S3 + 16GB Micro Sd = 32GB. And I think i paid $7 for the card from ebay..........People WAKE up!

I saw if you are rooted there is now a way to use your SD card fully like it was internal. What you do lose is your internal memory though as the sd card acts as it. So if you have a 32gb card and a 16gb model, you would lose the 16gb but the 32gb on the card would act as your internal memory. So you would then have a 32 gig model : )

Anyway, if I was buying as an upgrade the 32gb model is so worth the money. I bought mine on ebay and the price difference paying full price for each is much more then $50 for the $32gb version so to me it was not worth it.

So an update, I guess EVERY SINGLE REP thinks im an idiot for some reason? Maybe because im 18? Not sure. Anyway I walked into verizon and told them that they gave me incorrect information on the phone; I had to wait about 30 minutes until THEY figured out i was correct on how the apps cant go into the sd card. Even then they kept on telling me that some do and some dont. I told them none of them do and still they didnt believe me; so they called support. From then on they finally told them that they cant put apps into the phone and finally probably an hour later the rep just says, "Ya man you cant put the apps into the sd card, only internal." What did i tell him an hour earlier! So finally i tell him I want to return the phone and get the 32 gig version. He tells me there is a $135 restocking fee though if i return the phone!! At this point I was pissed for them just wasting my time so I told them I wasnt paying the restocking fee on a phone i didnt even use. I came with the mind set of buying the 32 gig version and they brought it down to 16 because they gave me the information of i could put everything on the sd card. Finally the manager starts getting involved and so he starts checking if he can put things into the sd card;trys and cant. So he says the same thing, all apps go into the internal. YES I KNOW! finally he knew they were wrong so gave me the discount on the restocking fee. and even when ordering the phone they still kept on trying to convince me that the 32 gig model was 16 gigs internal with 16 sd! They had to look it up and they saw once again i was correct. I know they probably dont test the phones, but come on at least research a bit on the new up and coming phones. This is their job! When activating my old phone i had to call support and guess what the guy told me on the phone, "Ya some apps go into the internal but some you can put into the sd card"

Just ordered the 32 GB SII along with a 32 GB mini-SHDC card. Should be plenty as I'm not a gamer. Apps in internal memory, pics and videos on SDHC. Did surprise me that apps can't go to SD on this model. Hoping I can get Dropbox to sync with SD.
