Returning the prime

Sending mine back tomorrow to TigerDirect. Asus couldn't give me any info and I just got lousy canned, robotic responses that lacked any kind of empathy. This was my first time trying Asus and I waited 7 months for this tablet...

I'm a reasonable adult, I understand that manufactures are going to have issues from time to time (it's expected -Even Apple) but it is what and how you communicate to your customers (or don't in the case of Asus) and then the integrity to do the right thing that makes or breaks it for me. What makes this scenario so awful is that not only did Asus not communicate that they are feverishly working on resolution for all of their valued customers but they just said, "Meh... Here is an "upgraded" model that will cost you $100.00 nevermind that you have a wifi tablet that CANT PICK UP A WIFI signal!

I think this was my first and last experience with Asus for life unless they do something to make this right. I'm patient and at this point would be willing to stick it out with just some communication from them that they are going to fix it but need a little time... Just DO SOMETHING besides touting a fixed product that I can't have...

I finally recieved my Prime on Saturday 14th. I noticed light bleed on the right edge when I first powered it on. After it started up I updated firmware and installes ICS. I never did notice the light bleed again, but my wifi seemed slow. I ran several test against my other wifi devices and it was horrible. The fastest download I could log was 1.76 mbs compared to my other devices 7-10 mbs.
Later that night I noticed the gps icon on, so I went to settings and disabled the gps radio. After doing that my streaming seemed much better, so I retested the dl speeds and they now are steady 9-11 mbs. Just thought I would pass this on incase this may help some others with wifi issues. This had no bearing on the range of the signal at all, it is alittle weak compared to my other devices.

I just tried this as well... I'm at work but with the GPS on, I'm getting 2-3 mbps.

When I turned off the GPS, I'm getting 13-14 mbps & 19-20 mbps upload.

Thanks for this info!

EDIT: Been testing it a few times... turning on the GPS and off... rebooting each time to ensure accurate readings. I sort of get consistent readings... I may RMA it back though, I do like to be able to check Google Maps on my tablet without having to turn on and off the GPS.

I was waiting for a while for mine to come, and was getting nervous reading all of the complaints here. I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised with how well it's worked, and maybe I'm lucky too, I don't know.

No light bleed, no wi-fi issues, ICS updated smoothly...it's been great. So no, I'm not considering returning mine. I hope those who are have their issues resolved quickly.

Yeah, I too was nervous when getting mine from Best Buy. But I have had nothing but fun and greatness coming from this thing. Sure, there have been a few held up apps, but that is to be expected when the Android market is as fragmented as it is. When we start seeing other products and phones receive ICS, a lot of the apps will work more efficiently. And we know that firmware updates can also help stability with ICS. Now, the wifi might be a problem for some, I have a 2300 square foot home and do not have a problem with getting fast wifi downloads/uploads. However, I did upgrade my router from the one Comcast rents out.

Man, how entitled have we all become. I got a dell laptop in 1999 with a 4 GB hard drive and about 250 MB of ram. Used dial up and could load about 3 games on it before it was filled up. And for all this technology the cost was about $1,500.00. 12 years later and this awesome tablet that has more capability than 20 of those old laptops put together and people are ready to give up their first born for a faster wifi connection all for $500.00. You can stream movies, play them on a 32 GB internal hard drive and load up endless number of scandisks worth of data. Millions of apps at your fingertips, downloadable at the speed of light. Light as a feather and fits in one side of a trapper keeper (circa 1981). What do you want from this thing; to give you a massage, make an espresso and then tell you why your past three relationships didn’t work out. Get a grip people!

1, you cant stream movies without proper wifi
2,you cant load sandisks without the dock and even then some people are reporting issues with it reading them
3,android currently has 400,000 apps, of which only a percentage are made specifically for tablets

this is coming from someone who DOES plan to own one, but theres no reason a person should spend their hard earned money on something that doesnt work.

Yeah that's what they are telling me. I know they have it. They just won't exchange it. They would rather just give me a refund.
I would print out the return policy and go directly to a manager or whoever the "main" person is. Its their own policy, they cant deny it.

I'm keeping mine I love it! Haven't really had any problems at all had one random reboot the other day and that was it. Wifi works good and I am very pleased with how fast it is. Surfing the web in desktop mode is great and my games are great on here. And my Cloud streaming from your computer is the best. Just trying it to get it to connect at my work. But I am loving this thing. Can't wait for my case to arrive and now I need a screen protector and a back clear protector.

Returned 3 before getting a good one without screen defects. If I like the new prime and it has less QC issues I will upgrade most likely. Its not going to be out for like 6+ months anyway...in my opinion of course. I doubt they will meet the q2 deadline they set and even if they do supply will again be extremely limited.

I love mine too. I am just having trouble finding the "user manual" on their website. Can anyone send me a link?

http://usa.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_Prime_TF201/#overview

On the bottom there is a download tab. Click it and it will guide u through it. There are a ton of manuals listed of the prime in different languages. The only 2 English ones are the manual and a FAQ one.

Sucks to hear people are having issues with their Primes. I skipped out on the TF101, but I'm still planning on getting the prime. I've been wanting a table for a long time now.

Same here man. I haven't had any issues with my prime what so ever. It was a bit laggy at first but i figured it would all be cleared up with the ICS update so i was waiting it out but todays update is night and day. Much better now :)

So no wifi issues at all? My wifi goes from 53 to 16 in a matter of seconds...Should I be concered? ASUS seems to think that I dont have a problem...they say thats normal.

I have the prime already i am waiting for the TF700 series one... I already have it bacially paid for and the money stored away... Do you think there will be a better tab to beat it

going to return this tomorrow. I can hardly get this tab connected when I am in the office, while my laptop and cell phonon can both connect to the same wifi at the same location.

I have both and there's no problems with either one. Although, there's no need for the quad-core at this time, so you can save your self some time and money by buying the 101 if you don't mind getting not the tip-top of the line product.

Love mine, I will admit that the wifi can be an issue for some though. My router is upstairs and when I am on the ground floor of my home the signal looks good but the wifi speed is a little slow. I have Verizon fios and get 20 megs down and five up. I can sit in the same place and get 20 down on my phone but only get 4 to 5 on the prime. When I go into the same room as my router the speeds go back to normal. This is annoying after spending $700.00.
