Review Thread

Oh, and as I take the phone out of my pocket and use the FPS during extraction, I also add a double/triple tap to the FPS so that I give it a few tries before I go for the Iris unlock.

How's it been for you?

My personal experience with on screen fingerprint, on S10 I had very frustrating time but with Note 10 it's been very reliable and works very well.

Yikes, not the best camera review from MKBHD. Not really bothered by that myself, as I'm getting the regular S20 for the 120hz and 5G in a traditional smartphone size. 6.3" display in a device that small was once unthinkable. I want a good camera of course, but I'm fine with it if it's at least as good as the S10's. MKBHD says the 100x zoom shots are no better than cropping-in 30x zoom shots.

Glad he's at least another in a long line of consumers and reviewers that is calling Samsung out for their color options this time around.

Paying 1400 for 3rd place camera....damn. I paid $400 for new Pixel 4 lol

Samsung better do some voodoo magic and fix the software part of it. I would say it's a complete fail if they dont

It's the one thing I've been nervous about with the S20. I'm not that worried about the cameras as I'm used to Sammy processing.

The news of the second gen FPS sounded promising then you read it wouldn't be coming to the S20. Maybe the Note 20.

That would be my guess. I thought about waiting for the Note, but I'm willing to bet those prices will be even higher 😂

I think Samsung got caught in the numbers game and trying to one up the current kings of the DXOMark ranking... the 108mp Xiaomi Mi Pro

Almost every review I've read has praised the 10x optical and even the 30x digital zoom. 108mp and 100x zoom is a gimmick that probably cost them performance instead of optimizing up to 10x and 30x. The difference between being #3 and #1.

I like Flossy but MKBHD is crazy critical when it comes to cameras so I take his reviews more seriously than Flossy's.

Perhaps. But they also released 3 models. As long as those deliver its not really a total loss for them. I hope all 3 aren't lumped together.

I have a feeling the Ultra uses Samsung's new Isocell sensors, while the other two use the more traditional Sony sensors.

Yeah... seriously... TGDH! (Flossy ;)) My boss is waiting to see if they'll have some BOGO promotion and if he does that I'll split the cost with him on the Ultra at corp pricing. Last time they had BOGO on Note 9 at launch but his wife needed a phone... Two Note 9 for $500!

That would be my guess. I thought about waiting for the Note, but I'm willing to bet those prices will be even higher ??????

The 108mp serves a purpose so I won't call it a gimmick. The 100x is understandably not real useful but I can see instances where it gives you something fuctional for distance though not something you would admire photographically. I like how MKBHD uses the analogy comparison with audio equipment. The optically extremely shallow depth of field may be problematic. Hope they can fix that but I'm not too confident.

100× zoom is not for taking your best photos , more you can catch a picture in such far distance that you normally cant with other phones without it . And the 108mp "Going above and beyond the usual 12 megapixels, Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G offers a whopping 108 megapixels. That's millions more pixels for impossibly sharp shots that you can crop and print—without losing detail"

......then there's that pixel binning thing combining pixels to reduce noise. So yes, I think having the 108mp is bragging rights but not without value in the end.

It all sounds good if you can put it all together and make it the best system out there... but only nets you #3 (according to MKBHD)

I don't think they used a 108mp for bragging especially last few years using 12mp sensor , I think they found something they could do with that 108mp sensor that would come out good like it mentioned cropping ,sharper details .
