Review Thread

didn't realize people put that much stock in reviews.

I just wait until I get it and if I don't like it goes back. I don't think I've ever returned a Samsung Galaxy. returned their flip phones back in the day. those were trash.

Too big for you maybe, not for me. I checked out a demo, I was able to use it one-handed just fine (I have big hands lol). Also, going by the (slim) case I bought the Ultra should fit in a side pocket of carpenter/painter pants just fine, if a bit snug.

Exactly. If you can one hand use the note 10+, you can the ultra also, it should be easier matter if fact, ultra is not as wide. It's taller, but there's ways to make that a non issue, such as edge gestures With that app you can slide down on the side of the screen no matter what you're doing and bring down the notification bar. That will make it so you can reach just about everything. You will have trouble reaching the opposite top corner one handed, but you have that issue now with the note 10+ or S10+.

Some are going out of their way to condemn the size. The ultra is smaller where it matters for one handed use. People that get big phones know what they are getting themselves into, chances are they have the plus version of the latest phones now. Samsung has 3 sizes to choose from, just get the size that fits you and be happy. I think Samsung did a fantastic job having a large battery and that advanced camera in the size of the ultra. You don't add that kind of stuff without the size of the phone getting bigger, and the ultra is by no means a gigantic phone.

S20 is too small (for me). Still on the fence between the Ultra and the Plus. I have a Note 9, which is 6.4 inch screen (had an S8 before this) and I could never go back to anything less then that.

The S20 is actually narrower than the S10 which is already narrow. 6.2” is misleading, I have said elsewhere I’d like to see a different unit of size used by manufacturers.

It’s definitely narrower than any phone I recall using. Feels both odd and nice at the same time. It’s a cool phone but it is long and heavy. My iPhone 11 Pro Max and Note 10+ both already stick out the top of several different pants pockets so I’m waiting for the day we look like samurai explaining to people it’s not our katana it’s a Samsung. Lol

Do any of these reviews talk about the battery life hit on the S20 (not the S20+ or Ultra Models) when on 120 frame rate? TomsGuide reported that the ultra models battery life went down by about 25% or from 12 hours to 9 hours roughly.

I'd very much disagree on the S20 being outclassed because it's a smaller form factor.
Many people, myself included, do not want a huge phone in our pocket and prefer a
more normal size phone. I also have the Galaxy Watch Active 2 so I use that for most
of my notifications therefore I'm not pulling my phone out every time I get a message.
In the end it comes down to what works for you and what size phone your comfortable with.

it's not just for the smaller form factor. so for me the s20 issues start and end with the limited 5G implementation (mmwave) and smaller battery. will it matter? probably not for most, but for me there is mmwave rollout in my area, and you really start to get used to the pleasures of the larger batteries

Anyone can scroll one-handed. Full-time one-handed use/typing will require Shaq hands on the Ultra.

If the phone wasn't enormous, there would not be this much talk and debate about the size in multiple threads, reviews, etc. Doesn't matter in the end... it's good that people have choice. People will be buying all 3 sizes, though you wonder how many would buy the Ultra if the Plus and S20 also had "100x Space Zoom."

Well that I can understand completely. In my area mmwave will be non existent so the standard 5G will work fine.
Not to mention I generally go through 5 or 6 phones a year so by next year all the newer phones will probably have
both anyways.

I would have got the plus if it had the same OPTICAL zoom. That was the selling point for me, not the 100X space zoom. Anyone who has seen the samples knows the 100X, while cool. just isn't producing a pic that you would frame or anything like that. When I went to buy i was actually going to get the plus, but I checked the specs again and saw it was only 3x optical.

Welcome aboard, that's what we've been saying.. Get what works for you and not try to convince everyone else it's too big. I went and looked again today to confirm, I'm very content when the ultra. I could make the s20+ work, but why.

As much as having a smaller phone is nice to have, I always miss have the screen real estate for media consumption. can't go backwards ever.

Why would I care to convince people I've never met that the phone is too big for them? I've simply made the point that it's the biggest Samsung flagship ever, and feels too clunky for myself and a lot of people. It's actually been a very common narrative for the Ultra. For example when you say it's "not as wide as the Note10+" I've pointed out that you're ignoring that it's a 3-dimensional object that has a depth your hand has to wrap around. A depth that exceeds the Note10+ by a wide margin, technically making it more difficult to reach for the opposite side of the screen (let alone the top). This very site we're on describes the Ultra as "incredibly thick and heavy." That doesn't mean they're trying to convince you not to get it. There are pros and cons to each device, and the S20 is an easy choice for me like the S20 Ultra may be an easy choice for you. I'm 6'1" with proportionate hands and prefer the smaller form factor. Conversely there could be someone out there who's 5'2" but likes huge phones. It's all good. In fact that makes sense to me... if that person's hands are small, they end up using all 3 sizes two-handed anyway, so why not get the biggest one? And of course there will be people with giant hands who want the biggest phone on the market.

I have never told anyone that they should not like or get the Ultra. Get whatever your heart desires. We simply discuss and dissect every aspect of the phone from the size, to colors, to the camera, to features, to accessories, etc. I'm a fan of Samsung's products, and hope the entire S20 line outsells every other flagship.

If they made it smaller you wouldn't get the bigger camera with the bigger battery so that's the end of the story.

I find it super funny that people are arguing about sizes when there are 3 to choose from. There are many choices to fit almost everyone. It's absolutely insane the things will complain about nowadays lol.

I think it's the reviewers. Everyone wants all these specs, but then complain that the phone is bigger and costs more. Both should have been obvious.

Exactly. I've been in a Telegram tech chat for years and this always happens with a new release. The same few people cry about things when in reality they aren't getting it because they can't afford it. It's like clockwork.

And no, I'm not saying the people crying here can't afford it. It's just a common thing in the chat that I'm in.

It’s a pretty normal thing on forums. I just recommend taking it with a grain of salt.
