Review Thread

If they made it smaller you wouldn't get the bigger camera with the bigger battery so that's the end of the story.

Touché! There's always that side of the story. Bigger and better camera = increase in size, for the most part.

I think it's the reviewers. Everyone wants all these specs, but then complain that the phone is bigger and costs more. Both should have been obvious.

My beef with the reviewers is they almost ALWAYS completely ignore the smaller variants of the phones they review. How many of the usual suspects will even make a video about the regular S20 let alone a full review with camera comparison etc?

Another positive review. Says he typically prefers big screens and uses a Note10+ as his daily driver, but finds the S20 to be the "perfect" size and recommends it over its siblings. Says you don't realize you miss that smaller form factor til you use it for a bit. Some camera comparisons vs. the S10 as well.

Nice find. I like how he specifically mentions it's slightly narrower than the S10. One of the things I looked at before pre-ordering was the exact width dimensions compared to the S10 and Pixel 4. S10 being a bit wide for me, while the Pixel 4 is nearly perfect. The S20 fits in between so we'll see how it feels in the hand when I finally get it.

I love how it feels in the hand. I think you will like it more narrow

Maybe I spoke too soon but here's another short review of the regular S20

I think this is by design. Samsung sent out the Ultra to most reviewers weeks before the other models.

Phone is like 2 days away from arriving at our doors and still not a single camera comparison of regular s20 and s20+ vs Pixel and S10?

Seems like we usually have good reviews of past models comparing all the sizes in the review, this year it's like the only phone being released is the Ultra. I guess since it's $1400 and Samsung wants to be known as having one of top camera phones or thee top camera they are pushing this model more to build some hype. It makes sense, but for those of us who are wanting to see how the smaller versions do it's not fun waiting. If Daniel Bader said he's keeping the 20+ it must be a pretty solid phone and camera, I don't think he would intentional bork himself on features if it was a big difference in photo quality.

Some of the camera reviews for the ultra aren't good though so dont know if sammy shot themselves in the foot. Personally i only care about the autofocus issue. Guess ill know for sure when i get to test one myself

And some I have seen think the camera is great. Its in the eye of the beholder. All side by side reviews I have seen with the s20, iphone, and pixel, it seems like each one excels in certain areas, and isn't as good as others is some areas. I'm in it for the better optical zoom. the sky zoom is a toy, but the optical zoom shots I have seen are pretty damn good. even the 30x sky zoom are decent.

Well yea i do take all the reviews with a grain of salt. Ill test mine when i get it , up against my 4xl .Yea i do like the optical zoom also. Excited for that and ultra wide that my pixel does not have. The only thing that worries me is the auto focus.

Take a guess

Usual reviewer doesn’t seem to like the phone that much.

It's not even just that, her commentary is just weird. And why is she using the 100x zoom to look into people's apartments? Then when they look back, she's like, im uncomfortable. What a wierdo!

I guess the issue is when you see reviewers mention how many photos they had to take to get the ones they thought were good enough for posting in the review versus how the Pixel and other phones produce more quality photos on a more frequent basis is where the concerns come in. Great shots from any camera are hard to critique in any substantial way, they often just come down to personal preference. But if the Samsung takes 10 photos to produce one really nice photo than how many moments are missed? That's where the angst for many is coming from.
