Re: Resound battery thread

First full charge, 20 hours up time and 8 hours awake time. The awake time was with moderate to heavy use. Screen on full, battery on performance mode, lots of web surfing and playing with the new toy. I don’t have anything syncing on its own but do have 2 exchange, ,a yahoo and a gmail email accounts. I do condition my batteries even though some articles say there is no need to. That really helped with my DX. The first two weeks the battery life sucked on the DX then it leveled out.

Are you in an lte area? That is much better than the thunderbolt if you are.

Re: Resound battery thread

Yes. I’m just south of the Tampa bay area on the west coast of Florida. We have good LTE coverage. I was reading that the Qualcomm chip plays really well with the LTE chip so should help out the battery

Re: Resound battery thread

This is what works for me. The first week I let the battery drain all the way down until the phone shuts off and then charge it until it is 100%. The second week is when I start charging it at different levels. My droid X could go all day plus on a full charge with moderate use. Keep in mind that I don’t auto sync anything or use the live wallpapers. I do keep the screen at full brightness and the battery on performance mode.

When you say you don't auto sync anything, does it also mean that you don't have email and texts pushed?

Re: Resound battery thread

Texts automatically come through but e-mail, facebook and all other social media I pull down myself. When the phone is constantly looking for updates it drains the battery.

So the second week you charge it UP to different levels on purpose instead of going 100%, or drain it down to different levels than 0% then charge? Or both?

Re: Resound battery thread

do you charge fully coming home from store with brand new phone or do you let it fully discharge before charging it back up the very first time?

Good questions, waiting for the reply as this is highly informative for me, thanks.

Re: Resound battery thread

And another question, along the same lines: do you charge your phones while on or off? In the olden times, it was recommended to turn the phone off when charging.

Re: Resound battery thread

With my Droid X I did the whole charge it all the way, then turn it off and let it charge for an additional couple hours. It helped make it last longer. This was on the extended battery though. The regular battery sucked!!

Re: Resound battery thread

I I leave the phone on when charging. I took mine off the charger at around 10:30 this morning before going to work and still have 69%. That’s with moderate use “texting, e-mail, lite surfing and playing around with it”

Re: Resound battery thread

Nothing special about charging a phone. Its the battery. Just know that lithium batteries (in all cell phones) like to be charged. When you get a new battery (including with a new phone) it will take several charge/discharge cycles for the battery to reach its highest power density (best charge). Although it would be best to not let the battey get too low, that is not the real world, but don't obsess about it. Also charging with the phone on might take a little testing on your part, but the criteria is that if the phone has a 100% charge after charging all night, keep doing what it takes to get to the 100%.

Re: Resound battery thread

With the older nicad batteries, it was it was pretty much mandatory to completely discharge and then recharge to 100% to eliminate the memory effect and a reduced capacity, i.e. conditioning the battery.

The next generation nimh batteries eliminated the memory effect, but the practice of conditioning the battery continued with debateable effect.

The newer lithium batteries can actually be damaged by running them completely down to zero charge and conditioning isnt really necessaary. The best approach is to simply charge often without regard to the charge of the battery at the time with the intent of keeping them near full charge as much as possible.

Re: Resound battery thread

I have read the same articles about the new batteries. BUT I still condition them and always have great battery life out of my phones. My last phone was the DX and while others ed and moaned about battery life mine was good. So that works for me.

I took my resound off the charger at 10:30am yesterday before work and just plugged it back in at 8:45 this morning when I was down to 1%. That is with moderate use. I’m on wi-fi here at home as well as at the office

Re: Resound battery thread

I was at my desk at 6:00am 100% battery. Now 1:00PM @ 66%. couple dozen phone calls, half a dozen text, 3 email accounts @15minutes, med screen brightness, live wall paper, blue tooth has been on since I got here. Weather updating hourly. Downloaded three programs that I missed yesterday. 4G

I can't complain about that. I would have been @50% on my TB with 3G. If I was on 4G I would have been down around 30%.

Still not great battery life but definitely an improvement.

Re: Resound battery thread

Now 5:06PM another couple of dozen calls and another half dozen or so text, 4G all day. Now at 44%. 11 hours at work and didn't have to plug in once. :)
