Rezound vs Galaxy Nexus

Haha, at least I added SOME on-topic content to my posts.

Also keep in mind that the 4460 is (I think) underclocked from 1.5 GHz. That should mean that it will be easily overclocked to 1.5, probably higher. As was debated before, optimization of software for specific hardware has a huge impact on performance, so remember that Google is building Android for the Nexus themselves to work well with the hardware.

Yeah, lol, I know. Just havin' a rib to ease the tension this section seems to have.

The clear benefit to the Rezound is the fact you can buy the damn thing.....that is a pretty important selling point....

Definitely, but I'm really thinking the Nexus will be out by the 8th. I can't see Verizon holding it past that. If they do, that's their choice. I'm gonna be waiting for it unless something revolutionary comes out before it.

If you're hunting something with a phone you want the Rezound.

Not because it's faster but because what your hunting will see such an ugly phone that it will be stunned and just sit there.

I actually like the look of the phone other than that ugly Beats logo on the back. The red accents on the Incredible made it somewhat distinguished from other phones.

Since you're talking hardware optomization. I'm not well schooled on the 4460. I know they underclocked from 1.5 in the Nexus. Does anybody know if their have been any tweaks into the overclocking realm, yet. Jugs-a-kernel worked it's magic and took Sammies dual core Exynos up over 1.8 on T-Mo's SGSII variant where it actually was pretty stable. I know Exynos is the better of the 2. Does the 4460 have the potential to handle overclocking numbers like that? Or is it just not up to the task?

I love how people try to compare the screen and processors of the nexus and the rezound like they are equal, lol. First, the S3 chipset in the rezound is inferior to the OMAP 4 chipset in just about every area (which is not surprising because snapdragons are unimpressive). A 1.2 GHz OMAP will outperform a 1.5 GHz snapdragon any day. And the screens: yes, the rezound has a nice 720p screen, but it isn't Super Amoled and it is nowhere near as vivid and nice as the screen on the nexus. In fact, the only areas where the rezound beats the nexus is sd card and probably a better camera which isn't confirmed as far as I know, but very likely. And even when the rezound gets ICS, it's still inferior in all the same ways.

Meh

T-mobiles variant doesn't use the Exynos chipset, they use the same snapdragon that is in the rezound. From what I hear, OMAP will handle a nice overclock really well, but time will tell. If the 4460 runs at a native clockspeed of 1.5GHz, then I imagine it should be able to reach 2.0GHz without a problem.

Meh

Well i think after much deliberation and debate, we can safely assume the winner between the rezound and the nexus. And it is: whatever phones come out next year that makes them both look dated

Why would you overclock the Nexus? It's as fast as you want it now and overclocking it will eat more battery life.

Thanks, I figured as much. It would be embarassing for TI if it couldn't whiz by the Snappaheads numbers. I'm a little :-[ that I forgot which chipset was involved in T-Mo's SGII variant. I'd rather have the 4430 @1.2 in a handset, over the S3@1.5, but hey, to each their own I suppose.

What do you mean by run circles around the Rezound?

From Engagdet:
Looking at our benchmark results, it's clear the Galaxy Nexus is no slouch. We're not going to read too much into the Quadrant score, since we're not even sure the app works properly in Ice Cream Sandwich, but it's close to what we observed on the HTC Rezound. The results for most of the other tests match those from the Motorola Droid RAZR (similarly powered by TI's OMAP 4430 chip), except for Neocore, which would crash each time we tried running it. Most impressive is the Sunspider score, which is the lowest we've ever recorded on any phone. In fact, the entire web browser is blazingly fast -- gone is the signature lag that's familiar to anyone who's ever browsed the web on Android.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus HTC Rezound
Quadrant 2,032 2,347
Linpack Single-thread (MFLOPS) 42.85 52.0
Linpack Multi-thread (MFLOPS) 69.37 60.3
Nenamark 1 (fps) 53.03 53.5
Nenamark 2 (fps) 24.26 35.8
Neocore (fps) Would not run 59.8
SunSpider 9.1 (ms) 1,985 2,961

Theres both about the same. Neither is running circles around the other.

Benchmarks don't mean much. In real world performance the Nexus should be much more smooth even once the Rezound gets ICS. The 4460 is just a much better processor than the Snapdragon in the Rezound.

Here's my 2 cents...
HTC phones have terrible battery life *because* of sense. it's so resource intensive it's impossible for it not to be hard on the battery. that said, sense is wonderful and adds some really cool functionality. It also makes android look more cohesive. ICS makes sense obsolete, because it brings the functionality and beauty without the bloat.
also, I've wanted a nexus device since the G1 (which, like some, I think of as the precursor to the nexus line) and have never had an opprotunity because i'm pretty much stuck with verizon. So I choose the galaxy nexus on principle.
It'll be interesting to see how the skinned androids look and work with ICS.

Because why the heck not? It's fun making our phones do things that the manufacturer didn't intend for us to do.

I'm beginning to think htc choice on batteries has more to do w/ aftermarket sales of extended batteries. They give their phones crap they shouldn't. Just so you'll part with more $$

I got sick of sense and always rooted my phones so they could run pure android, so why not buy a phone that already has it. I also am becoming a "nexus only guy" because of updates. When the thunderbolt was first released they promised gingerbread to it and i just got gingerbread almost a year later, 3 weeks ago.

cheers!

I think it was more like 6 or 7 months later

so your a Samsung guy because of updates?....My old Fascinate is still on Froyo when they promised Gingerbread...I used to love my Fascinate, now I really am begining to enjoy and explore my Rezound.I've never rooted a phone, but if I root my Rezound, theres no doubt it will be a total beast-it is a beast all ready just to much bloat.....

They sell an after market 1800 amh battery that fits under the stock rear cover....count me in!!

Definitely NOT saying the rezound isn't a really nice device, it's awesome. All I'm saying is that it is inferior to the galaxy nexus in almost every area with the exception of the removable storage and maybe the camera. And no, the rezound getting ICS won't change this.
