Rezound vs Galaxy Nexus

Rezound has an amazing screen and the Gnex has underwhelming hardware.

ICS works perfectly on older devices. Look at the Nexus S.

What?!?! The rezound's screen isn't nearly as nice as the super amoled HD screen of the nexus. It also has a very unimpressive snapdragon chipset, which are the least desirable platform for android users. The only underwhelming piece of hardware on the nexus is the camera. BUT THIS A PHONE!! If you want a great camera, go buy a camera. Head to head with the rezound, the nexus wins in 90% of all areas.

Of course ICS works great on the nexus s.........it's a NEXUS device. *facepalm*

I'm renting a Rezound and waiting on the nexus. What a gorgeous screen. Would be even better without a screen protector on it, but I'm not taking any chances as I'll probably be returning it for a Nexus in the next month or so.

Advantages of the Rezound seem to be a (slightly) better resolution in terms of subpixels (although for color, SAMOLED > LCD), better quality (albeit slower) camera, MicroSD slot, and definite availability of extended batteries.

The nexus is better in every other way. Faster, much better software situation, NFC, thinner. The only real dealbreaker would be if there turns out not to be any expanded battery option on the Nexus.

I strongly expect to trade in when it comes out. In the mean time, Rezound gave me 3 extra gigs on my dropbox ;)

Have you seen a gnex screen up close? Everybody who has held both the rezound and gnex in hand have said the gnex screen is waaay better than the rezound. The rezound isn't even super amoled. HTC makes cheap phones, no thanks.

Personally I think which screen is better is subjective to your personal preference. The Super LCD on the Rezound is amazing in that it reproduces colors naturally, whereas the Super AMOLED on the Nexus looks a little cartoonish to me. Not saying it isn't vibrant as all the reviewers are saying, but personally I like the look of the Super LCD better. I'm also a little weary about the Nexus screen being pentile.

Either way, this isn't one of the items I listed as making my decision difficult. I have no personal preference to one screen or the other as they are probably the 2 best screens on existing phones today.

Do you have a personal vendetta against HTC? Or are you so insecure in your decision to buy a Galaxy Nexus instead of the Rezound that you have to constantly trash the phone to make yourself feel better?

Both are fantastic flagship devices. A lot will buy the Rezound; a subset of nerds who care about the Nexus line and its advantages will go for the Nexus. Sorry if I come across as rude, but I'm just saying.

Specifically against HTC? No. But against cheap, lower quality hardware phones, absolutely. And if the shoe fits, *cough* HTC *cough*..........well, you know ;)

On the verge of quad core? In about 3-4 months, if not longer, which is an eternity in the phone world. Not to mention that the software won't be able to utilize the quad core processors correctly so it's not that big of a deal. ICS is here and now which is why I'm not mentioning things that aren't readily available.

Also, how does phone longevity not effect you? Like people who bought the Bionic. Or people who bought the AT&T Galaxy S2 on launch day wanting LTE, only to have AT&T release the LTE version just a tad more than 30 days later so they couldn't get it. I'm sure people don't want to buy new phones every month to keep up. There's one Nexus every year; that's enough for me.

The Rezound may be a great device. My Incredible was fine but the support from HTC was terrible. Updates were late, buggy and support for long time issues was zero. I could read android sites and find fixes but they should have been provided by HTC. 18 months later I don't care if the Rezound is great hardware or not, HTC gets no more chances. My one Samsung device has received two updates in 6 months and I am quite happy with Samsung's support.

I haven't seen one yet; I live in the US. Although my previous phone was AMOLED (Droid Incredible). I'm not saying the Rezound is a better screen, it's just better in one particular aspect. I'm well aware of the general superiority of SAMOLED.

And to be clear, I'm not really on the fence, I'm about 90% sure I'm trading in for a Nexus when it becomes available. (thats why i'm here and not in Rezound forums) I was just saying, there are some nice things about the Rezound, too. I'm sure I would be buying one if there weren't a verizon nexus phone (FINALLY) just around the corner.

But HTC's high-end phones are renown for being the best in Android land in terms of build quality.

Frankly, I think that Samsung produces much cheaper feeling phones than HTC. It's not that they couldn't go toe-to-toe, but it's instead their design language. HTC opts for aluminum, unibody designs, while Samsung goes for high-quality plastics to be as light as possible.

HTC, Nokia, Apple, and some of Motorola's devices are usually the devices with the best build quality and materials. Samsung is up there in build quality, but they do tend to use light plastics.

I agree. However what I've come to notice is flimsy is more durable. Watching drop test show that phones like the Samsung sg2 will pretty much bounce and scratch the plastic, phones like the iPhone shatter. Feel is nearly always the opposite of durability.

From my experience Motorola device have been more durable then most. Not sure about the razr or other newer devices.

There is a yearly cycle for significant processor improvements, so 3-4 months, and it may just be just 2-3 months, is well beyond the half way mark of the cycle, and thus within the period where a responsible buyer will wait for the upgrade.

And as to longevity, a superior phone that comes out just after my phone has no effect on my phone in any physical way. It is still what it is. And if you wish to say that a fast influx of upgraded devices will make your device obsolete quicker in terms of applications it can run, then of course that would apply to the Nexus too, and is thus an obsolete point. If anything, to have less longevity is superior, as when you wish to upgrade you will be less likely to be caught in the middle of a long cycle and have to either accept aging hardware or wait months and months for something bleeding edge.

You spend a lot of time in the Nexus forum for someone that doesn't seem to like the device very much, buddy.

You keep talking about what's going to happen in the future, but what you're missing is that my point is very simple; right now, the Nexus is far beyond the Rezound. Yes, I'm sure there will be a phone that will come out not too long from now with some aspects of the specs being better. It may have a faster processor but an inferior screen. It may have an amazing camera, but a slower processor. Hell, it may have everything on the Nexus beat, but it still won't have updates in the same timeframe as the Nexus.

The people who review these phones see them all, yet almost everyone has said the Nexus is the phone to beat right now. It's just the truth.

I never contested that.

When few will speak truth the responsibility is greatest to reveal it. Most martyr's aren't appreciated during their time.

Poopai....we're on an interactive web forum for mobile phone enthusiasts. You realize how absolutely ridiculous and ill-fitting your comments are, right?

Yes, you're going against the grain by not being completely sold on the Nexus. Yes, the Nexus has some faults (just like every other phone). You're not being a martyr by speaking what is already known about this phone. The camera could be better. It could have a better GPU. It could have a 2000 mah battery. The processor could be the Exynos. The screen could not be pentile. That's a list for the Nexus, but I could do the same for every other phone and the list would be larger. The only legitimate gripe there, from what I've seen, is the camera. The GPU does just fine and has thousands of games designed for it. The processor is more than fast enough. The battery isn't small. No one cares about pentile after they've seen the screen.

You can wait for the new phones next year and that's fine. At this moment, the Nexus is the king. Probably will be for awhile, too.
