Why would content providers block Chromecasts ability to stream content like the free Hulu through Chromecast when you can easily do this by plugging the tv into the computer? I don't know if Hulu free has been blocked but people seem to be saying they will block it. Maybe I'm missing something but if I wanted to watch something bad enough that was blocked in CC I would just plug the computer into the Tv and watch it. I assume it's because they don't want to make it too easy for people???
What leads you to believe it is being blocked? It has to be enabled in the app and only Hulu+ is in the app store now and it does allow casting. Have you tried casting from a Chrome browser on your PC?
I'm talking about Hulu free being blocked from being able to tab cast from Chromecast . The last time I checked it wasn't blocked but there seems to be a lot of people saying they will probably make Hulu free inoperable through CC. I guess we wait and see
If i had to guess, They're saying Hulu's free service won't work because they want to you buy a subscription. Yes, it's stupid because as you mention, you can just HDMI from your computer to your TV (though folks with older computers may not have HDMI).
Hulu tends to anger me with issues like this a lot, though I'm sure it's more the licensing partners than Hulu itself. For example, I have a Hulu+ account, and I also have a Roku...but there are some programs that I can't watch via Roku (even though I'm paying for "premium" service) that can only be watched via "computer"...so for these shows I have to plug my laptop up to my TV and watch that way. I can only assume that those same shows won't be available via the mobile app to send to Chromecast as well. But why?!?!? When all is said and done, I'm still legally watching the exact same content in the exact same manner (on my TV), but now you've made me jump through an extra hoop to view it.
For both of these, it probably comes down to the type of license(s) Hulu has to broadcast the shows. And it's stupid. Apparently, watching something on your computer (even though it can be hooked up directly to your TV) is not the same as streaming to your TV. As always, I blame the lawyers.
