Ridiculous verdict in Apple/Samsung case

Seriously how do you figure? Apple can copy off everyone else but God forbid anyone copied off of them. I had a smart phone in 2005, and I put asset tags on windows powered tablet pcs in 07. What did apple invent exactly?

Apple did not steal the computer, nor did they steal the smartphone. Their designs were new, the UI paradigms they used were new, and the devices as a whole were very different than what existed prior. It is not a coincidence that the market shifted to slate form factors from QWERTY ones following the iPhone, and that tablets have become very different as well.

Are you really an android fan? I mean your sitting here defending apple. Kudos to them for the modern smartphone design but why is anyone allowed to compete? Why am I not allowed a choice? I don't want them to stop making ios devices they just need to play fair. Motorola pretty much started the era of thin flip phones with the RAZR and you did see them suing everyone who had been similar design the it. Technology as a whole advances by stealing other ideas and making them better. And Android has a lot more features and can do a lot more than ios. Apple wants to take out Samsung then release and iphone with a 4.7 inch hd screen. Their little rinky dink screen is so outdated now I often mistake iphones for basic carrier phones

You have a choice, and that isn't going away. The only result of this is that Google and its partners are going to have to find different, and better, ways of doing things that won't infringe. That's how the market is supposed to work.

Also, your cheap shots and insults don't belong in this conversation. If you're actually interested in discussing this rationally, then you should behave rationally as well.

Well your coming in here with this "I know everything and your a attitude". I am discussing this rationally and I didn't say I was rooting on Samsung I said I wanted the damn case thrown out!

Does Apple have any trade dress lawsuits with any other Android OEM?

I'm pretty sure all other lawsuits involve software patents.

Apple has infringed on numerous patents, but chooses not to pay. They've already stated that they are relying on peoples love of Apple products to stop the ITC injunction from Motorola. They aren't basing their lawsuits on being right, it's rather more about them thinking they're so beloved that they can do whatever they want. You really think a Jury of Californians wasn't going to be biased right off the back to support their precious Apple over a foreign company that's taking it's market share? American courts are the only place that such litigation could ever take place. Take a look at some of the rulings elsewhere in the world and you'll see a more balanced picture. I find it totally crazy that Samsung got nothing for actual technology patents, where Apple got a billion dollars for rounded corners. Gene Roddenberry should sue Apple.

You lose credibility when you post that "Apple is monopoly".

Just sayin'.

Please. Your argument boils down to 'I hate apple, so the jury's decision can't possibly be right'.

Samsung didn't get anything because their patents were either exhausted or not applicable. Hell, some of samsungs own patents weren't used in their own smartphones.

Plain and simple the patent system was designed to protect start up companies and inventors, not allow multi billion dollar companies to bully the competition. Maybe apple isn't a monopoly yet, but it what they are pushing for.

Because they have less than half the smartphone/computer market? Do you understand what a monopoly is?

Look ok they aren't a monopoly yet but can anyone argue that that's not what they want to be? Honestly if they had released the original iphone on 4 carriers with 3G and mms on 07 android probably would of never taken off. Even i was intrigued by the first generation one

Look, I'm sorry that you're of the opinion that anyone who takes any issue with Apple's business practices are Apple Haters. It's a view you have expressed furiously across these boards for some time.

Whether or not Samsung used all of the patents in this case in their phones, they were still patents and they owned them and Apple did not pay for them. No experts disagreed that Samsung's patents were valid, or that Apple was using them. To not hold Apple accountable whatsoever shows a distinct bias.

Everywhere besides America, courts are tiring of Apple's dirty tactics. The U.K. got so sick of Apple's trolling that they ordered Apple to post on their website that Samsung wasn't copying them (currently under appeal) in the hope that it would teach them a lesson. Germany is so sick of them that they threatened to fine Apple, or permantly ban them from future submissions, if they even attempt to file more frivolous lawsuits.
