Ringtone Assignment

I just purchased a mytouch 4g....I've been a blackberry user for years. On my blackberry I was able to silence my phone with "exceptions". My kids, my father, and work would ring through even though the phone was silenced. Any idea how to do that with this phone? Or is there an app that will do it for me?
