Just got this phone, trying to learn if I can root and add ringtones to the device manually.

You don't have to root to add ringtones. Just create a ringtones directory on your sd card and copy them there.

looking for a LOUD ringtone for my Galaxy S; a simple ring would be great just much louder than the standard android "digital phone" would be great if anyone has somethimg similar they could upload.

I'm new to droid and that may make me late to the party, but worth mentioning to anyone who hasn't figured it out yet there are a ton of ringtones on CB,(crackberry) easily emailed to your device and using ringdroid are downloadable/customizable to android devices. FWIW I was having issues getting ringtones on my commando. Not anymore! This is really easy.
