I'm new to the android so I went to the market looking for ringtones. read some of the reviews and most load a bunch o crap on your phone or want access to everything.

Any recommendations.. the ringtones built into the Gnex seem a bit lacking.

Thanks for any advice

make your own on your computer and import them. The ringtones android apps are pretty crappy.

Zedge has a pretty good variety of both ringtones and wallpapers.

I connected the phone via USB and downloaded some ringtones but they don't show up in the list and I can't figure out how to list the files from within the phone. There's no file explorer app that I can find.

see my post above. put them in a "Ringtones" folder.

"Astro" is a great free file explorer.

One app I've really enjoyed for a while has been Ringdroid.

It will cut up any compatible sound file and make it into the correct file-type for Ringtones/Notifications/Alerts

I haven't re-downloaded Ringdroid yet since using it on my old DX. Does it offer any type of amplification yet? I like to kick up the volume a bit using Audacity then transfer the ringtones from my computer.

No such luck with that feature. Really it's a shame a dB boost would be fantastic because on the phone it's nice to pick it up, edit, and drop in a new tune. I'm afraid I shouldn't have posted this here. Currently Ringdroid will only find files on the SD card, and the GNex is incompatible.

Good to know. Thanks for the info.

download ringtone maker, its from the creators of ring droid they just changed the name for whatever reason, same layout same everything as the ringdroid app were used to. And I had no issues with making my own tone for my nex, I know they added a fade option with this app where you can adjust the volume but I have not played with it yet.

"RCP" has a few Ringtones apps in the market, and I like them a lot. Good notifications and ringtones. Loud and clear as well.

Also note that Ringtones, Notifications, and Alarms are no longer buried in subdirectories of the phone. They're each top level folders so you'll need to move the sound files to the GN top folders in apps that auto save to the subdirectories the old way.
