My fingerprint scanner has been a problem on and off like a few others. It has always started working after clearing out the stored data and power cycling. It started doing it regularly once a day for about the last 3 or so days and finally as of this morning I guess it quit since I can not program it after all my tries.

I did find it useful since I could unlock it with one hand but I am tired of not knowing how to make the fix permanent. I am just going to keep using it without the scanner and not bother with warranty exchange etc.

Any of you in the same boat as me?

Thanks. :)

I have issues with fps too.it occasionaly stops working like maybe once a week or so. It doesnt look like its a hardware problem. because if it were, the scanner wpuld completely stop working even after power cycles. I suggest you try to do a factory reset. This is definetely the software issue. which i hope will be fixed with upcoming 2.3 OS release. also some installed poorly written apps may cause various hardware instability issues. I had my phone rooted with gingerbreak and it started rebooting while using gps and during the phone calls. once i unrooted the problem disappeared. try a factory reset. most likeky you will have occasional fps lock ups but not as often as now. if the fps will continue with daily lockups i suggest contacting motorola.

Thanks. I don't know though if I want to through all that trouble if it is still going to happen. It could be marginal hardware coupled with faulty software but certainly it stared with the last update.

restoring your phone after factory reset is relatively easy. contacts and emails linked to your gmail as well as all purchased apps from the market. you just have to re-download them. if you decide to do a a reset however, do not use any backup software as it may backup everything along with faulty apps/system files etc. better start from a clean install. if you call moto with this issue this is the first thing they'll suggest you to do. so you might as well do it prior contacting them. I would definetely ask for repair or exchange because having to live with something that doesnt work on my expensive high end phone (which i'm planning to sell later ) is just nott an option for me.
good luck.

Thanks again. It is now working, the only thing I did different was shut power off while on the setup screen and not after I hit home as I usually do.

The next time it quits working I will do a factory reset as you suggested.

I have had the Atrix for a month or so now. I have not had a major issue with the Finger Print Scanner, Only once or twice has the FPS not worked, but after a battery pull or restart of the phone it is back up and operational.

I am sure if you just wait for a bit, I think it may work it self out.

Yep you are right. It did come back. Thanks.

I only had one problen with the scanner and it was probably due to not swiping my finger in the same area or at the same angle as I recorded the print. I only wish more than two prints could be stored.
