Roaming default: home or automatic

I have no idea if this was a coincidence or is even okay to do, but I was getting bad 3G while I was in my bedroom and decided to change the default roaming option from automatic to home. All of a sudden the 3G seems blazing fast.

Could that actually make a difference or am I delusional?
