roaming

What exactly is roaming? And what does it do. I've always wondered but never got the chance to ask.

Roaming is the ability to use another carriers network. Sprint for example has roaming agreements setup with say Verizon. That way if a Sprint subscriber goes outside of an area covered by Sprint but Verizon has coverage the Sprint subscriber can use the Verizon network.

Virgin Mobile currently doesn't allow roaming and uses the Sprint network, so if you go to an area that doesn't have Sprint coverage your phone will show No Service.

Would be nice. I just moved to an area not covered by VM. Sprint here but no VM. using my OV on wifi only right now. But that's a month away. I don't wanna pay for service for a month of no use. Hmmmm what to do. Change carriers or not?

Your sig says you have an OS :D
Really tho try a prl update if there's sprint towers you'll likely get service and not even roaming.

I think Virgin gives you 30 days before cancelling your account for non-payment. You won't have cell service, but you could at least use Google Voice or something until roaming hits.

That's weird, VM runs off Sprints network so if Sprint has coverage there your VM phone should work

Not if the "Sprint" coverage in his area is actually part of the roaming agreement with Verizon.

He's probably running Cold As Ice without the VM fix.

Wonder once roaming starts if we can use QPST on our OV's to change network from home only to auto and get roaming service on our OV's?
Don't be surprised if you have to give up grandfathering to get it.

From Virgin's Facebook page:
"Virgin Mobile USA:
Hi everyone. I need to clarify comments about roaming on Virgin Mobile. Roaming is not available. We did recently update our terms and conditions (effective 7/1/12) in order to make our language more consistent with Sprint’s. There is a new reference to roaming, but we have no plans to add roaming at this time. For information on whether roaming applies, see your service plan details. Our sincere apologies. ^Justin C

So no roaming... As of now.

Well, I guess this is one customer they're going to lose soon. When I travel, I need a phone that... phones.

You never had it before, and they never officially promised you anything.

Agreed, L.A. The $25 a month is the only thing keeping around. I had been shopping for a different carrier until I caught wind of possible roaming on Virgin. Back to shopping I go.

For what I need, every other carrier would cost me $50 a month, or more. I looked for months.
