[ROM][AOSP][4.0.3] Codename Android 1.5.5 [Full Open Source]

Been using AOKP since build 22 or so when I switched from CNA. The pink unicorn is a little silly but it doesn't bug me. In general, I don't use custom boot animations and AOKP has a setting in ROM Control to turn off the boot animation.

I get so lost in what files I need for AOKP....

What I liked about CN is that it was simple, builds every so often, etc. but then it just died.

Wonder if he used someone else's stuff somewhere and you know how it starts to snowball.

Did you follow the link in the other thread? You need the toro rom and the 3/17/12 GAPPS file.

I'm officially a pink unicorn!!!!
Just flashed the rom.
Got stuck in the bootup animation so had to redo it.

Only thing, is there a way to customize it so when you hit settings from the pulldown it looks more like the stock ICS options?

I'll be honest, I completely forget what stock means lol. If you go to rom control, you should see an option for auto-hiding the toggles. That should be it?

Also--CNA is basically dead, right? Have we established this?

Right now there is no way to OFFICIALLY establish that CNA is dead. But, here's the deal. He hasn't posted any changes to his github in well over two weeks. His voice on Rootzwiki was a user named "Link" who put up a new thread called "Update Status" and then promtply he also disappeared. Link has logged into rootzwiki within the last few days but is posting nothing. Codenameandroid has completely stopped all posting on his twitter account over two weeks ago. The handwriting on the wall looks fairly clear but no one can say with certainty at this point.

I questioned whether he was going to continue or not and posted that I felt that he owed at least an explanation for those who donated money to him. For that, I was banned for a time by the Rootzwiki Gestapo. Then I posted that as a matter of courtesy he should let people know what is going on with his rom, and that posting was also removed.

I've been around here for a time and active earlier in the VZW Nexus threads so most know me and know that I'm not prone to posting hostile or harassing comments but I was told that asking for a post from CNA as to the future of their rom was harassment.

You can go over there and post yourself asking about the future of the rom. I specifically said I was not asking for dates, just whether or not the rom had a future. If you do go post that question there, be prepared for a nasty note from a moderator and possibly even banned for a short time.

+1 on the donate part. At least an explanation.
I also seen that the kernel dev, Bluhartford quit the team w/o explanation so thats not a good sign.

I think it's dead....I mean it started it off with such promise but who knows. people get busy with their day jobs, etc. I actually meant to put the pink uni comment in the aokp thread but put it here by accident.

I kinda liked CNA its been awhile since I ran that Rom .I was begining to wonder why it hadn't updated in awhile .

DT got parts of CNA in the new Pickr Rom too(Axiom| Lunch Menu|Daily Flash) .

Confirmation that development has stopped at least for now. Link to a Rootzwiki post below.

Reading through the thread, looks like people have had a lot of success with the nightlies, just be prepared to flash GAPPS and a Kernel before you boot back up.

Unofficial CNA Nighties Discussion Thread - Codename Android - RootzWiki

Always a bummer to see someone go through personal issues which take them away from doing something they love.

One thing to remember (or know) about the nightlies is that producing the nightlies is an automated process, the server gathers up what is in the github and produces a nightly from that. Since the github hasn't been updated all of those nightlies are really just the same rom, being produced over and over.

I've read some good reports about them so they might be good for some. I don't trust them since they were not a "ready for prime time" build. Also, there is no assurance whatsoever that any bugs that show up will ever be fixed.

For me, it's just time to move on and I've already done that. I read what CNA posted about personal issues and I hope that things work out for him. I'm glad that something was finally posted so that users can make choices as to staying where they are or moving to another ROM.

CNA 1.6 has been a great ROM and even though it's not being actively updated and 2.0 is just nightlies, I see little reason to change roms as 1.6 is just that nice. My phone works great and 1.6 will be my main build for a long time.

Have they updated to 4.0.4 yet?

I've been trying a few different roms since the CNA project is now officially dead (for now at least). What I'm finding is interesting. People are writing everywhere that this rom is better or that rom is better and whatevernamed rom is faster than anything else and smoother etc.

In trying out the various roms that I've tested I've found that they are all pretty fast and any differences would really need to be tested via some objective type of benchmark testing and we all know that benchmards can be fudged. So, it comes down to what we like and are used to. I liked CNA and I knew were "things" were when I wanted to make changes in the look, feel or operation of the rom. The main problem I'm having with testing other roms is that each time I put a new rom on my phone I spend way too much time just trying to find where the settings are located.

In reality, it does seem that most roms are made equal, the differences are in the details/settings etc. I hated a pink unicorn flash and seeing that every time I went into the settings. Was that a deal breaker, possibly, was it really critical - no. That was just me hating pink unicorns, but overall a nice rom.

Then there is bamf, which I'm running right now. The usual EGO flash screen with their name all over it and some music which I immediately turned off. Nice rom, runs smoothly and quickly. Same issue as before, finding the setup locations and getting the phone setup the way I want. Once it's done it is just about the same as the others I've tried.

I guess what I would like is a plain rom that runs smoothly and quickly, has some settings to apply some personalization to the phone but who's authors don't feel the need to embed their egos into it. Sometimes, the issue isn't the rom itself, it's all the outrageous crap and garbage that is added to it with names, music, flashing pink stuff that doesn't add to me sense of manliness etc.

It sure would have been nice if Samsung/Google had just gotten this all right right from the get go, no need to flash custom roms, no need to root, no need to upgrade the garbage radios that came on this phone. It's been just a hair under five months since this phone came out, what happened to "its a developer phone, fast upgrades right from Google"? More like, no upgrades from Google!

I like the phone and I usually do root my phones and rom them to make them work the way I like them to work. But we should not HAVE to work this hard and do this much to a phone just to make it work at all.

So you flashed aokp and didn't like the pink unicorn? It's so easy to change the boot animation and there is one tiny tiny picture of it in settings. Unless you go into settings/about phone you'd never know aokp was on your phone. :)

Lol as davey said.. if the pink unicorn is going to turn you off a ROM - when its only a tiny image in settings and a bootanimation you can change in 2 seconds - as it "threatens your manliness" (LOL) maybe you've got some other issues you need to tackle first...

Regarding your points... Stock android has never been perfect, that's why developing and ROM flashing caught on so long ago. Its still good and highly usable, IMO.. but you get to have a lot of fun with the customization options in ROMs.

And finally.. you were never promised FAST updates on this phone (at least not by anyone with authority or knowledge, maybe some dude in some forum said it and you believed it). What you get with this phone is:
1. If you choose to remain stock.. the phone will be updated to the latest version of android Google wants it to have, pending testing by carrier, and it will be updated further than any other phone available now or any that will be released until the next nexus. It's safe to assume that most phones released through the end of the summer or so have a slim to none chance of ever seeing Jellybean or whatever android 5.0 is called, while yours will definitely get it.

2. The option (which you clearly have taken advantage of, kudos btw) to take matters into your own hands and enjoy the development community, which will, for FREE, provide you not only updates to the latest google released source code... but will improve upon that code by adding in tons of new features and tweaks and all that jazz.

Hope that clears up some things :)
