[ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.1.0 -Stable

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-Alpha 4

I've been noticing that once in awhile, Alpha 4 doesn't quite seem to read certain files like mp3s and others I have on my SD card. A reboot sometimes clears the problem but seems to come back after I haven't rebooted in awhile. Should I do a hard reset (take battery off and press power button for 10 sec) or is there another fix or is it just a bad install?? Also, sometimes when I reboot, I'm getting battery drain. I used to get that with Legendary ROM as well. Is that a problem with all ROMs or might it possibly be a bad/weak battery. I've had this battery since I first got my phone (10/10). Feel like I may have to pick up a new battery.

Decided to make the jump from CM7 to CM9 the other day with Alpha 4 and I must say things are pretty damn great so far. It's sad to see the Epic run ICS so good yet Sprint & Samsung will never update the phone to it. Thanks to the @EpicCM team for all your hard work. I can only hope my next phone sees the same kind of support from wonderful people like you.

Do we need to wipe & factory reset 3x before installing this ROM if we were on Alpha3?

No need for factory-reset-total-data wipes when you flash alpha updates: cache + dalvik ONLY (devs have described that the update process will wipe these two automatically, but it doesn't hurt to do so before you flash your alpha update, as an added precaution)...........also, from alpha 2 forward no need to flash gapps unless noted (as in bold red type).

Try SD Card Tester (dl from Mkt) + see if your sd card is behaving erratic reading/writing data: you may have to replace it soon, hopefully not............also, make sure all of your apps are stored in physical memory, not your sd card, if that's what you intended; often, pushing music files from the sd card while running programs from there as well may cause erratic behaviour, though not in every device.....................as for the battery icon dropping power after a reboot, it's a known bug (Battery Icon, upstream issue not yet merged): re-power the battery as you have been doing + note how quickly it powers back up............then again, it may be your oldie battery :)

*edit: so far, I have seen at least three battery-related issues posted on the official CM bug list.......just know these will be debugged in good time (for a complete list of known bugs go to the OP and click the second to last link).

I had no idea that I should store my apps in physical memory. I just let my phone install apps wherever, lol! I'm constantly listening to music and messing with an app on my way to work, the gym, etc. so what you're saying def makes sense! Is there enough physical memory to store apps though?? I'm actually in the process of getting a 32gb micro sd card and a new 1800mAh battery so hopefully these problems will be corrected. If not, I'll keep searching for workarounds or ask for your help...lol!

Thanks for your wealth of info sonarchist!!

In CM9, when downloading new apps, often these get placed inside the sd card; you can check to see if any apps ended up there by navigating to menu / manage apps / on sd card + if necessary you can move them to internal memory (physical memory).............if 512mb is too small a space + depending on how many apps you run you may want to explore apps2sd, a very popular app that allows you to manage your apps inside your sd card (this app works great on CM7, but I have not used it on CM9)............as usual, you will have to experiment to get the perfect set-up that will allow you to enjoy your music collection w/ little to no system conflicts............... awesome: new msd card + battery!

In addition to some users experiencing shorter / erratic battery life, there have been reports of various other types of battery-related behavior that have been brought to the attention of the EPIC CM Team + have been duly noted + are now on the list of officially known bugs to be reconciled in due course.............a recent example of one of these is the quick drop of battery charge that then re-appears as a higher % after a reboot (thankfully, a logcat appears to have been submitted + we can all look forward to hopefully having the source of this issue be located + resolved):

xda-developers - View Single Post - [CM9] User Support Thread - by users for users (compilation of questions and answers)

Am posting this here to let members know that a number of the quirks that you may (or may NOT) be experiencing with CM9, may have already been addressed to the EPIC CM Team + are awaiting the proper time frame from within the dev's respective overall schedules to be able to zoom in on these issues + locate the source of said issue(s) for proper debugging............for a closer view of the known bugs that have been defined for CM9, please go to the EPIC CM Issue Tracker HERE:

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-Alpha 4

Just wanted to thank Sonarchist for the wealth of info he's been providing us with. I've been running the CM9 as my daily driver since Alpha 2 after a buddy of mine pointed me to it a few weeks ago. I regularly follow the CM9 Epic Team via their blog and their Google + page. I'm on Alpha 4 now, and it just keeps getting better :)

I have noticed occasionally I lose the custom ringtones I have set on my phone (located on my SD Card), and a simple unmount/mount of the SD Card resolves that for me. Battery life continues to improve, and I am currently trying out BBelos' Shadow Kernel for CM9 Alpha 4 to see if helps with some lag/signal issues I sometimes experience with either WiFI and/or GPS.

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-Alpha 4

I still have an issue with the auto-rotate feature working, it has not worked for me on CM9 at all. I tried booting the EL30 and doing the calibration there. I verified that the auto-rotate did work in EL30. I booted back into CM9 and it still didn't work. Any ideas or suggestions?

Here is the link for the Issue Tracker tracking that problem:

The current quick-fix is the horizontal calibration (as you mentioned) from a stock MTD TouchWiz ROM, ie, you can ODIN to STOCK BML, such as EL30 Stock w/ EL30 modem (using the new EL30 stock tar), THEN from rooted CWM recovery you flash an MTD TouchWiz ROM --such as Toadlife's (XDA) CleanGB MTD ROM; NOTE: *THIS is where you would perform the calibration*............... THEN you have the choice to either stay on CleanGB or else flash CM9 or another MTD ROM.................... apparently, this has worked for a good number of CM9 users.............but this IS a quick-fix only, meaning that you may have to keep tweaking this fix w/ every update until the CM devs zero in on a permanent fix..........fwiw: the only time I ever got this bug was w/ alpha 3 but the screen is now rotating as good as ever on alpha 4.............perhaps you can select a different mirror for a fresh new download + same thing w/ gapps right over your current setup, as you have done the calibration already.......could be a bad dl?

*edit: before a re-flash, try Nova launcher (post-beta), + if no luck try a 3rd Party kernel (or both :) )......auto-rotate has also been recaptured this way strangely enough.
**edit= apropos to temporary need to jump to EL30 STOCK for these type of fixes, have posted the link to soft-boot to EL30 STOCK from sdCard on OP + HERE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21825104&postcount=1
***Edit3= 03/03/2012 UPDATE: Edfunkycold gets full credit for this fix > to make this horizontal-calibration fix stick, you MUST perform the actual calibration from an MTD TOUCHWIZ ROM.............changes to fix in bold above.........FWIW, many users have NEVER experienced this issue; other users have reported it going away w/ a number of quick fixes, such as those mentioned above. However, for aggressive cases of this problem this may be your only chance of restoring auto-rotate.

Overall this has been an awesome build, however, the main reason I switched to CM9 is for Goggle Chrome browser. Just wanted to make you aware that Chrome is now having issues not recognizing CM9 as ICS, I realize this might not be something you can fix on your end. Thanks for the killer ROM and support!

Boy, that chrome update hit the custom ROM world like a bomb yesterday..........w/out blaming anyone, here is Warren Togami's (EPIC CM Team) immediate response: a 'how-to' that allows you to continue enjoying chrome + CM9.........a win-win :) ........do read the notes carefully before delving into your build-prop, + know that you will have to do this mod once more w/ each update (hint: alpha 5 is dropping any day now)..........How-to-fix-android-chrome-on-cm9 is HERE:
