[ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.1.0 -Stable

There is a patched apk for Chrome browser which you can download and install for the latest version of Chrome that works with ICS and you don't have to do any build props. Here is the link but read before using as this just like the build prop posted affect the android market.

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-Alpha 4

Do you know if this fix will be incorporated in the next alpha or are you waiting to work out any market related bugs?

........Yes, looks like this fix is being dealt with.........here's the update:

Cyanogenmod Epic 4G: Coming soon in CM9 alpha5 for Epic 4G

*edit: also, view Submit Patches for Gerrit on OP.......Mkasick, EPIC CM Team, has been testing + has hopefully incorporated this fix for sure (Thanks Mike !) :) ........... now that Adobe Flash_v11 is out for ICS, we can all be looking forward to checking how it interfaces w/ chrome w/ alpha5.

Check option to split text at 160 characters. Or if that's what your "receiving" tell the person sending that's what "they" need to do.

CM9 was running great for me but now it has slowed down a bit and stutters a little in menus, games, and the launcher. Could it possibly be because of the shadow kernel? Anyone else have problems like this with shadow kernel? I'm going to try and see if the shuriken kernel will have better results.

Try reflashing the kernel again, this time wipe cache + dalvik right after your flash, just prior to booting to system (bbelos' instructions)..........if your issue persists, could be a bad dl or a bad flash of shadow OR CM9.
*Edit: shadow(4) on alpha5 = pretty smooth............you're not overclocking above 1400?.............if you do try shuriken, let us know how that is working out for you (ie: is the hotspot stable?)...........also, try running stock for a bit to see if the lag/stutter can be singled down from baseline.
*update: there appears to be a known issue running shadow as well as shuriken when uv/oc'ing on CM9........requiring some handiwork to work around (as of 02/28).........anyone else having random reboots w/ these kernels?
**Edit2: 03/03/12 UPDATE: just flashed ShadowKernel.05............running great on CM9a5........no hiccups whatsoever.

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-Alpha 5

Absolutely loving this ROM. My Epic has never been better. Couple of bugs like the auto rotation issue that I can deal with rather than wipe and re-flash. COuple of questions I was hoping some of you might be able to answer. First, when I went from A4 to A5 I did not reinstall the Google Apps. Despite this I am not having any issues. So is it always necessary to reinstall the Google apps after updating what version of CM you have? Second, there has to be a way to adjust the time the 4 keys on the bottom of the phone stay lit but I just can't find it. Does anyone know if this setting is adjustable and, if so, how I do so?

Thanks.

TH

There is no option for the soft keys, sorry. As far as the gapps, they added a script to backup your existing gapps during the flash. You don't "have" to update the gapps, however from time to time the newer packages seem to have "changes", "fixes", or "updates".

Thanks for the response Zeinzu. Looking forward to future CM updates and can't wait to see how it runs when it is "finished".

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-Alpha 5

I hate to add to the "bad battery life" conversation, but I'm noticing significant hit to my battery life after moving to alpha5. I also moved to the EL30 modem around this same time, so there is a possibility it could be the modem that is affecting battery life. Has anyone else encountered this battery life issue on alpha5?

I'm restoring an alpha4 backup to do some testing to see how it compares.

I restored alpha4 and am still seeing some issues with battery life. I'm starting to think it's the EL30 modem instead.

I'm on EL30 modem and alpha 5 and it hasn't been ok for me. How long have you had your battery for?

My phone is a year and three months old, so it's getting up there in age. Battery could be shot.

I had the same issue, rockets, when I moved from Alpha 4 to 5 without wiping anything (it was their suggestion). So I wiped everything and reflashed the 5. After that I get a better battery life (just about all day). Oh, I'm using EL30 too. I heard the FB21 is much better but it's not avail for Epic yet. :)

ODIN'd FB15 modem (fr 'leaked' source) about 24 hours ago; as I did not install the full stock FB15 Firmware (as I intend to use CM9 as my daily driver, going forward), am not sure that I am getting the full benefit of the new modem.............up through 11/11 when the EPIC finally got the official Gingerbread EI22 firmware, there had been a few ROMs built from 'leaked' GB source + these tended to autoreboot w/ some frequency, grateful as we were to our devs for bulding these for us........+ though FB15 has not rebooted yet, performance has been about the same as on EL30: no worse AND no better.............same w/ battery life: am getting around 7-8 hrs use per charge.......FWIW, the new battery on a new device right out of the box is rated from 6 to 7.5 hours, so those of us that are still getting around 6 hrs w/ batteries dating to 09/10 are doing pretty good..........still, the whole point of rooting + running custom ROMs is improvement in performance of our devices from a whole number of vantage points, so am most interested in pursuing knowing more + in a way that is one of the purposes of this thread.
...........in this spirit, there is an entire conversation about battery life here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516961

........also, jdelano is hosting an EPIC CM9 QnA thread here: http://epiccm.blogspot.com/p/epic-cm9-faq.html

Will post this last one on the OP, for future reference as it promises to keep pushing out good reads for the entire EPIC CM9 community..........as this alpha continues to flower to its fullest potential, will look forward to hearing from other members + sharing all knowledge that should cross our collective retinas relative to this hearty device :)

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-Alpha 5

Well, I still am unable to get the auto rotate to work properly. I just went through and did the following:
1) Wipe everything and Odin back to stock EL30. Went into settings -> display -> horizontal calibration and calibrated properly.
2) Wipe everything and install CM9 alpha5
3) Booted up and turned on auto rotate under display and launcher. This still did not fix the auto-rotate issue.
4) Soft boot into EL30 and calibrate again.
5) Boot into CM9, turn both auto-rotate settings on and off a few times. When I finally turned them both on, this still did not work.

I'm running out of ideas here. I did verify that when I'm booted in EL30 the auto rotate does work properly. It's just when I'm booted in CM9 that it will not work. I know these steps have worked for others, but not me for some reason. Any suggestions?

@rockets95

.............from reading your description, and as you have basically run the gamut of the known workaround, you may want to try this:
menu / system settings / system / notification drawer / select 'Show power widget' / select "Toggle Orientation' as one of your choices.............then over the course of a few days, from your notification pull-down: select + un-select this option to explore results....................Q: have you explored other ICS launchers?........Nova from the Market, or else Apex (from XDA) could help resolve your screen issue, or at the very least provide additional features for you to explore going forward...............as for the Issue itself, it remains a known BUG that is currently being reviewed + will hopefully resolve out soon.

Tips, anyone?

*edit: Apex is Here: [APP] Apex Launcher Beta (Android 4.0+) - xda-developers

Thanks for the suggestions and help along the way. I have the "toggle orientation" in my notification bar and I toggle it every once and a while to see if it will magically work. Unfortunately, no luck yet.

I also switched over to Nova Launcher last week (which I really prefer for several reasons, definitely worth the $$), but I haven't seen any changes in behavior when enabling auto-rotation there.

There are a few entries opened for this in the CM9 Issues Tracker, but they are all either closed or marked invalid. Hopefully there are still developers working on this issue. Even with that, CM9 is by far the best ROM I've ever run on my phone. I'll deal with a few small issues to be able to run ICS.
