ROM HELP!!!!!!!!!

I am using a samsung captivate i987, modded recovery with no check for signatures on zips, on froyo. I am new to flashing custom roms, and I'm trying to flash dark knight. I used ROM Manager to get clockwork recovery, now it says it is installing the rom, but it is in a loop. it:
brings up the att screen
goes black
brings up att screen
brings up, what looks like i guess the terminal where it installs, in a matter of half a second in runs through bout ten lines then goes blank, and back to the top.

Is this bad, correct? It will stop doing it after about ten times, then I press and hold the power button to turn it on and it cycles through again. Wjat the Heck!?!?!?!?

You need to try and get it into download mode. I take my battery out and hold the volume button down, put the battery back in and plug in the data cable and that works sometimes

No this does not sound correct
If you can get into recovery you can update to ( The Collective ROM ) it flys on the captivate
Google , Captivate , One Click Oden ( back to stock )
Google , Install CWM Captivate
Google , Flash the Collective ROM and Gapps for 4.2.2 , google will have all the info you need for this
This is a stable and very fast ROM on the Captivate
Google is you friend , you may also get detail for flashing and more info at XDA developers
Dark night is a bit glitchy on the Captivate but after reverting to stock and installing CWM you should make a backup of ,
1. the stock ROM ( stock from Oden ),
2 each respetive ROM you flash
You can then flash Dark ROM or any other thru CWM , just be sure to flash the correct Gapps for same , i.e. 4.1 , 4.2 , ect
