[ROM][KERNEL][09.28.11] GeeWiz 1.1.1 ED05 TouchWiz Debloated

Re: [ROM][KERNEL][08.27.11] GeeWiz 1.1 ED05 TouchWiz Debloated

I flashed the TW4 launcher on mine and it is awesome!

Do you mind if I ask where you got it? I'd love to see it .. and maybe even ask permission to use it

Re: [ROM][KERNEL][08.27.11] GeeWiz 1.1 ED05 TouchWiz Debloated

my phone on the dialer causes a fc when i try to call out. but i can recieve calls though. it says android.acore has stopped unexpectedly. i have installed with odin. does anyone know what happened or has this happened toi anyone else on here help please????

Re: [ROM][KERNEL][08.27.11] GeeWiz 1.1 ED05 TouchWiz Debloated

Ah, the dreaded acore fc... Did you boot into cwm after the odin flash and wipe dalvik and cache? If not, I would suggest a reodin of the rom and then 3 finger booting to cwm before a full reboot.

Re: [ROM][KERNEL][08.27.11] GeeWiz 1.1 ED05 TouchWiz Debloated

I finally took the plunge and began trying different things on my phone with rooting, roms etc. After a few mistakes, I decided to go with this ROM since users seem to really like it. I followed the instructions and everything is working perfectly. I really like this ROM so far. Since I am still a little unsure of how everything works, could someone explain how to flash now that I am using GeeWiz 1.1. For example, I want to use the "GeeWiz 1.x Silent Samsung Keypad CWM-Flashable: add-on". What process do I use to install this file?

Do I have to use ODIN, install the red clockwork on my phone and then install the add on from that program, or is there another easier way since I am using this custom ROM. I see in the "shutdown" menu Recovery is an option.

I am sure this is a basic question, but I want to get it correct. If I do have to use the red CWM, could someone please give me a link to the most current version.

djp952,

Any chance you are going to do a GeeWiz GB rom? I really like your work!

Re: [ROM][KERNEL][08.27.11] GeeWiz 1.1 ED05 TouchWiz Debloated

@cidsou... You would have to ODIN a CWM in order to flash any of the addons to this our any custom ROM. I recommend CWM3 personally.

Thanks. So the CWM3_Voodoo.tar.md5 is preferable to use to cwm_recovery_all-3-30-FIX when flashing.

I can use the CWM3 even though I haven't downloaded the Voodoo kernal.

I know these are basic questions...I'm starting to understand more and more. Been reading and reading to learn.

I'm working on it, actually. It's slow going though ... I'm not very pleased with the performance so far (other than the battery life which is frankly AMAZING -- 3 days with 3G on and ~85%!), and I can't get the kernel code Samsung released to so much as boot so far :(

I think I may have to wait for a Fascinate-specific GB release, but I am trying to get caught up with the GB changes and will do what I can as soon as things start working to my satisfaction!

I'm running CWM3 on mine with no problems, non voodoo kernel and all. If you want to make sure you'll have no problems, after flashing CWM, boot straight into recovery and go to the voodoo section in CWM. Disable all the options, and you're good to go. Just make sure to reenable them if you do decide to use a voodoo kernel.

CWM Voodoo just gives a voodoo menu. It will not change/add voodoo on its own, but just give you the option to after flashing a voodoo kernel. It is perfectly fine to use it with a nonvoodoo kernel of you wish. Just make note, that version of CWM will only install zip files that are Edify scripted. Most everything is made this way now, but if you run into errors trying to flash older zip files it is probably because they are Amend scripted and incompatible.

I just installed this ROM, and I wanted to say thanks for the great work! I think this is more or less everything I wanted changed about this phone.

The only thing I miss is Think Free office from the stock version (it was a pretty good PDF viewer). If I download the zip file from this thread, can I just flash it in CWM or is there a better way to do this?

I was running the GeeWiz ROM and flashed Thinkfree Office zip from an Evil Fascinate ROM Extras and it worked great im sure the ED01 your linked too is the same thing and shouldnt be a problem.

Yeah, it should be totally OK. Let me know if not and I can make an update-zip with the one from ED05. I didn't delete a lot (ok, pretty much all) of the libraries from the stock ROM so things like the originally cooked-in apps should be easy to flash back into place. Well, that, and I didn't want to break something - LOL.

My wife's phone is stock ED05. If I use odin to flash this will it wipe data? If not, do you recommend doing a factory reset prior to flashing this ROM.

Also, just to confirm, CWM will need to be flashed later if needed because it is not included in the odin package.

Flashing this doesn't wipe data, and if you use ODIN, you need to ODIN CWM on there first so you can boot straight to recovery and wipe cache and Dalvik cache. After that, reboot and enjoy!

Thanks. So I'll Odin cwm, then the rom, put the battery in and boot straight to recovery and wipe both cache partitions and reboot. What combination of buttons does it take to boot straight to recovery? Its been a while.

Hold both volume buttons and power until the second time the Samsung logo appears. Let all three go, wait just a minute and you'll be in CWM. Do you remember how to navigate CWM?

I was able to re-install Think Free Office from the zip in CWM without any trouble, so this ROM is now complete as far as I'm concerned!

One other question – in the notes there is mention of removal of Verizon's tether-detection stuff from the Kernel – does this mean that we can use the wi-fi hotspot app that's included without being charged? Or a wi-fi tether app from the market?
