[ROM][KERNEL][09.28.11] GeeWiz 1.1.1 ED05 TouchWiz Debloated

I was able to re-install Think Free Office from the zip in CWM without any trouble, so this ROM is now complete as far as I'm concerned!

One other question ? in the notes there is mention of removal of Verizon's tether-detection stuff from the Kernel ? does this mean that we can use the wi-fi hotspot app that's included without being charged? Or a wi-fi tether app from the market?

You can use one from the market without verizon knowing. My recommendation is Barnacle.

Re: [ROM][KERNEL][08.27.11] GeeWiz 1.1 ED05 TouchWiz Debloated

Update for you guys .. I've been working on an EH09-based Gingerbread version of this Kernel/ROM and am finally making some progress. I have a kernel that compiles and boots reliably, I got rid of the hotspot monitoring, and have started working on a ROM to go with it.

I'm not very impressed with the speed of the Fascinate when running Gingerbread/2.6.35.7 and right now think I'll stick with Froyo on my real phone, but progress is being made.

From what I've seen/found, I may be the first person to actually get the EH09 kernel to build into a bootable state! It must be because nobody else has tried ... lol. :p

Re: [ROM][KERNEL][08.27.11] GeeWiz 1.1 ED05 TouchWiz Debloated

I had the Powerwashed EH09 ROM on my phone for about three days. In that time, I had to reflash it due to random reboots (that came right back...) and just was generally dissatisfied with it. I went back to GeeWhiz 1.1 and my phone is stable and solid. I think I'll skip Gingerbread with my phone and get ICS with the Galaxy Nexus.

Same here, after a couple of days I went back to GeeWiz as well. I just feel GeeWiz runs smoother on my unit.Though I do use the EC09 modem file on GeeWizz with no issues and I do see an improvement in the signal.

Yeah, the EC09 modem works better on mine as well.

Hmm. Unlike many of you, I'm finding the Powerwashed GB to be very stable and everything works. Once in a great while the phone will freeze and a battery pull is necessary but overall, it's my favorite ROM so far.

Just an FYI. I keep seeing people pulling their batteries when the phone freezes up. This shouldn't be necessary. You can do a soft reboot of the phone by holding the volume up and power buttons. Saves you the trouble of having to remove the back of the phone and pull the battery while the phone is technically still powered on.

Re: [ROM][KERNEL][08.27.11] GeeWiz 1.1 ED05 TouchWiz Debloated

Love that tip, but tbh I've not had a need to battery pull since trying PWGB ... so odd.

So never being happy with a good thing - I'm interested in trying this ROM - I mean I'm not sure I really "need" GB especially if it means getting back that voodoo feeling. So what kernel do most people find to work well with this? Been so long I forget how to even switch to voodoo.

If one was to Odin this ROM what would be the next steps to getting your phone switched over to voodoo and what kernel(s) is recommended most? (assuming EC09 radio is a good choice still)

Thanks

Yes, except for the fact that none of the buttons would work either.
Usually either power off or the soft reboot will recover, but not that time.

What do you mean by "I'm not sure I really need GB"?. PWGB is GB? What am I missing?

Right steps, wrong order. You ODIN the ROM first, then ODIN CWM (I recommend CWM3). After that, you 3 finger boot to recovery and flash both cache and Dalvik cache. Reboot and restore your apps (if you have them backed up. If not, I would root your phone and then backup with TiBu. The ROM doesn't wipe data, but better safe than sorry...) Enjoy, this ROM is stable, fast, and great!

Thank you for the fast reply!!!
but i do have one more question, what is Dalvik cache??
when i boot to recovery, does it shows Dalvik cache directly?

I will try right now!! wish me luck!

I'm saying that I'm in GB now but I think I may like Froyo + voodoo more. I've done some reading and searching but I couldn't find out what voodoo kernels people were using with this ROM i.e. GeeWiz (which is a voodoo-capable Froyo ROM or am I just confused? Wouldn't be the first time)

The Dalvik cache is in the advanced menu. Once you go into advanced in CWM, it's right there as an option.

ROM updated to v1.1.1 via a CWM-flashable patch file. Nothing Earth-shattering, just making good on the promise to hide the most popular launchers from the Task Manager and update the core applications to the latest revisions while I was in there.

Download link to 1.1.1 PATCH in the first post, if anyone's still interested :D

I have tried this update yet both Launcher Pro and Launcher 7 are still been seen in the task manager and being cleared out when cleared on Task Manager. Am I missing something?

hmmmm.... I'm pretty sure I got that right, but stranger things have happened :p Can you grab your /system/app/JobManager.apk and post it for me? I can decompile it and see if it matches what I think I put out there for you guys. It wouldn't be the first time that I missed something :D
