Is there a preference in where you find your ROM's?

Why would a developer not make their ROM available in ROM Manager?

I used to solely use ROM manager and then decided to start trying ROM's off of XDA and feel like it's better to start there and get honest comments about the functionality of a ROM rather than the spam of comments typically found in ROM manager.

Interested in hearing others preferences and comments on this.

It is my understanding that inclusion in ROM Manager is up to the developer, Koush.

I don't use ROM Manager. I actually like ClockworkMod and the control it gives over the entire process. To research ROMs, I end up at RootzWiki a lot. They have a fairly comprehensive list of ROMs/Kernels/Mods, with links to developer forums on several other sites (XDA included). Check it out.

I still think the best reseach is nandroid...flash...play!

In order for your ROM to get ROM Manager support you have to provide your ROM source code online for one. Not all devs like going through this process, and then there are some other hoops to jump through to get listed. Many find it easier to just have their ROM listed at various sites.

I like to download my Roms with my PC from a few different sites and transfer to my phone, I have only used Rom Manager once to download a Rom update because I wasn't around a PC.

I honestly have given ROM Manager a few attempts on the NS4G and it seems like every time I thought things were going good that is when it screwed up my recovery.

Now I use TWRP recovery and have nice touch screen controls instead of having to use volume/power to navigate.. A much cleaner and more efficient recovery in my opinion.

To me, ROM Manager is a tool that takes some of the leg work out of flashing new ROMs or updates. Even if I don't download the ROM with RM, I'll typically use it to get in, do backup, wipe and install. Saves me the time of navigating around CWR myself.

I would caution anyone against using RM if they don't already know how to do all this manually through CWR. You need to be able to boot into a ROM into order to use RM and if you have flashed more than a few ROMs you know the second you screw something up and get yourself in a bootloop you'll be thankful you know how to do it all manually.

In many ways I think ROM Manager makes it really easy, but only too easy if you haven't done your homework first.

I think more devs for our phone hang out on rootz and post their stuff more frequently than xda. I never download from RM...prefer to get roms hot off the press from rootz.

Also you should check out the touch based cwm...its just a pleasure to use, and totally compatible with RM.
