Maybe you guys can help me. I rooted using 1-click method and have superuser. Trying to make a backup using ROM manager. Phone reboots into recovery and tries to install, but never passes verifying stage. says, "failed to verify whole-file signature." Same problem when i try to run update.zip. what am i doing wrong?

Yes, you MUST use odin. With z4root or z4mod, you will get root. You must also use odin to flash the ClockWorkMod or you will always get the blue text screen and it will attempt to update but 1/3 of the way through you will get a failed signature.

Here is the URL for the ClockWorkMod. Make sure you chose the one for Fascinate if that is the phone you have..

Here is a complete set of instructions. The file links on the first page do not work. The good links are like 3 pages from the past page. Hope this helps.

Clockworkmod installation how to for windows / *nix - xda-developers

^what he said. i know rom manager has a place to flash cwm, but it no workie, not for fascinate anyway. must use odin. odin is your friend.

Thanks. Clockwork is up and running, tried out a few themes. couple other questions if you don't mind. How can I be sure that I have properly backed up the stock rom? Is there a zip file that is on my sd somewhere? also, if I am dI01, is it impossible to use a dj05 or dL09 roms? what about cyanogen roms?

yes on your SD card look for the clockworkmod, then look in the backup folder

if you want to use DJ05 roms you need to update your radio and kernel to DJ05 compatible ones

uofatree-- I would not do the DJ05 or DL09 updates as of yet since there is an over the air update that was supposedly initiated today to bring you up to DL09. With that update you will have the updated kernel and radio. Then from there you could just update the ROM to a DL09 ROM of your chosing. if you do decide to update yourself just make sure you do not use incompatible ROMS/radios/kernels. You will not be able to boot your phone. What I mean by that is if you are using a DJ05 ROM make sure you have the same version of the radio and kernel, although technically you can use 05 with 09 radio's but there may be issues.

what update? there is no update! flash away, or hold your breath while i try and get my tractor off the bottom of the gulf.:D

See all the commotion in the update thread....it seems no one actually has it on their phone, and vzw has taken the link for ins to upgrade..rest easy and flash, no upgrade in sight

Good argument, DJ05 is the same if not better than DL09 right?

I have not tried dl09, but Cory the mod on here says he sees no difference..maybe something about popping noises on music player or something. He says minor change if anything. I'm real happy on 05, the update dont faze me at all. Fun to watch all the biatching tho

Well there was your problem gunner. It seems you were trying to water your way up with the tractor. Didn't ya say you did have a bridge for sale????

I tested both DJ05 and DL09 on my phone in just the last 2 days for comparison. No real difference I can see. I did get the music popping/cracking when I played music on both. However, a simple reboot of the phone took care of that problem and all is well. I returned to DJ05 because the custom ROM I use (jt's Super Clean DJ05) includes the radio, ROM and kernel in a single package w/ no bloatware and some nice updates. But that is a personal choice so give them all a try when you get the upgraded radio and kernel. ;)

Again - thanks to everyone who posted here. If I upgrade my kernel to dj05 and am using a di01 rom, will that potentially cause me any problems?

custom rom imo are way better than stock. just flash one through rom manager, you wont be sorry.

every time i try to load a custom rom through rom manager it says this:

-- Install from package?
Finding update package?
Opening update package?
Verifying update package?
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

So what is going on?
