[ROM] midNIGHT ROM v2.7

Ok.If you want to run with the advantages of EXT4 you need to do through the process of installing EXT4. However, if you are among the people who don't really care and would like to run the latest midNIGHT ROM without the EXT4 you're in luck. I am currently uploading build v2.4 EXT4 (Dual). This ROM can be installed on a stock rom without the installation of EXT4. It will not take advantage of the EXT4 format but you can run the midNIGHT ROM as usual.

Basically one ROM will now work with both RFS and EXT4....

I'll update the the thread soon.

Thanks so much. :D Also thanks for the simplified EXT4 directions for us remedial members ;)

This ROM looks amazing and I'm looking forward to trying it out along with the ext4 file system. A couple of questions first though...

*Do voicemail notifications work? Can I use the stock Sprint Voicemail app with this? Last custom ROM I had loaded on my phone was Truly Epic v 2.06 I believe. I could not get voicemail working for the life of me so I went back to stock 2.2, rooted.

*Does 4G work with this?

*And, say everything isn't working fully for me and I want to reflash a nandroid backup? Is it necessary to "uninstall" the ext4 file system? <----- EDIT: Scratch that... I found the answer to that one.

Those are my only questions thus far. I know there is no such things as a stupid question, but I'm still quite new to all of this. Nevertheless, I'm learning quickly thanks to everyone here. If I have any more questions, then I know where to come! Thanks!

I know 4g works, I use it on midNIGHT's and Bonsai's. Both using the EXT4 filesystem.

As far as removing the EXT4 filesystem you would have to Odin back to stock Eclair and go from there to where you would like.

I never had any problems with the Sprints stock voicemail app in any of the ROMs I used.

Has anyone else had preiodic problems w/their GPS on 2.4? I can get a lock in about 2 min w/the "Maps" app, but I keep getting Searching for GPS in the "Navigation" app even after my GPS has locked. My GPS was working flawlessly in previous ROMs.

I d/l GPS Status and get a lock (I don't know what the #s mean).

Any help??

NOTE: I did not do the EXT4 procedures.

ShaLea - please don't post the same question in multiple threads. Choose the most appropriate thread for your question, and post once in that thread. Thanks :)

Just followed this procedure to mostly success. Thanks for the great work. A couple things:

1. My GPS does not work, and I want to try this procedure (forum.androidcentral.com/epic-4g-roms-hacks/47362-three-procedures-fix-gps-problems-froyo.html), but I'm not exactly sure how to go about it since I'm now on EXT4. Any thoughts/tips?

2. I really like the midnight themes, but I'd like to revert my dialer back to the original color scheme. I'm not sure how to do this.

Thanks again!

Try Procedure 3 first. If that doesn't work, try Procedure 1 (this will take you back to RFS, so you'll have to convert to EXT4 again).

Correct me if I'm wrong but...

if you were to flash back to midNIGHT's stock rom with no theme you could pull the dialer.apk out of your system/app folder using Root Explorer/ES File Explorer and save it to your SD card. Then reflash your midNIGHT theme and then using App Installer or equivalent install the dialer.apk

I believe this would work. Anyone?

What to see the midNIGHT v3 Theme in action? Stop by my blog and click on the Android Development page..

Check your link. Should be lostandtired.com. You tube link comes up with error also. Thanks for the hard work.

Edit: Just click the link in the signature.

You've got the right idea. Let me try and streamline your method a little: reflash the ROM to go back to an unthemed version of midNIGHT, go into the theme zip using ASTRO and delete the dialer.apk from /system/app, then flash the theme.

Yes that would do it my friend. Glad to see all this stuff I've been learning is sinking in.... You have instructed me well Ragnarokx.

Thanks.. Hope this helps the person wanting the old dialer vs the themed dialer.

Made the switch to EXT4 and the new ROM and have to say ptfdmedic's method is great... I did make one dumb mistake... after you flash the ROM the first time and run the script to do the EXT4 conversion, DO NOT under any circumstances do the usual data and cache clears before installing the ROM again the second time... I spaced out and did and ended up reverted back to prior clockwork and had to ODIN my phone and do the process again... if I recall, some developers put apps in the data folder and clearing it after initial install gums up the works... if you follow the instructions to a T this process is super easy... phone is definitely snappier on EXT4... both maneuvering around apps, and also landscape to portrait on main screen and for messaging, etc... really nice job on the ROM and appreciate your hard work...

For those that have flashed to v2.4 on EXT4, I have a quick question... I updated last night per my last post, went through the conversion, which completed successfully, and reinstalled the ROM, which I can verify in the settings/about section on the phone... only question I have is that I thought this ROM installed clockwork 2.1.5.2? When I did the install and followed the directions, at some point I definitely saw 2.1.5.2, but when powering up and trying to install a theme today from the blog, it reads as 2.1.5.0... any ideas on what could have happened? In addition, in trying to install the v3 EXT4 theme (AOSP lock), I get the error "E:Failure at line 3: copy_dir PACKAGE:system SYSTEM: Installation aborted"

Any ideas? Thx

I concur! Ext4 makes this thing a beast! Very fast, snappy, smooth. So glad I ran across the thread yesterday about the lagfix.

Great job on your ROM too ptfdmedic! Works great! Only thing I noticed is for some reason, I can't back out of the contacts to the home screen. I have to literally hit the "home" button to get back. Not much of a deal honestly. Other than that, everything works sweet!

If you are doing the 3-finger salute "volume down+camera+power button" to get into Clockwork then that will bring you to the old Clockwork 2.1.5.0. From there you can simply scroll down to "advanced>reboot recovery" and that will boot you into the new ClockWork 2.1.5.2.

Once on the EXT4 you have to flash everything from 2.1.5.2 or it will not work.

I suggest using the "QuickBoot" app located in your App List provided by midNIGHT's ROM and use that and the option to reboot into recovery from there anytime you want to flash something. It will take you straight to 2.1.5.2 without having to go threw what we talked about above. Also there is Reboot Manager available from the Market to do the same.

Guys, scratch my last question... what I realized is that when you first boot into recovery, it is 2.1.5.0... if you go to advanced/reboot recovery, it boots up again as 2.1.5.2... why, I have no idea, but it works... from 2.1.5.2 I was successfully able to install the v3 theme... also, I can confirm that tiny bug trying to back out from contacts... if you slide your finger one button over and hit home instead of back it takes you to the same place pretty much and just as fast, so I honestly didn't even notice until it was pointed out... have to say this is a pretty zippy and stable ROM...

Glad to know I wasn't the only one experiencing this. Not a big deal considering how fast and stable the ROM is. Can anyone else confirm the existence of this little bug?

Also, where did the finger slide trick come from? I never knew this could be done. It's almost "Palm Pre-like." Lol... Still cool nonetheless!
