Updated to Official Verizon FOTA (2.18.605.4)

This is a flashable ROM from generated from Verizon's *official* 2.18.605.4 FOTA update with the following set of changes:

  • Rooted with insecure boot, Superuser and su.

  • Deodexed and recompressed using my scripts and tools.

  • Busybox installed in /system/xbin.

  • Removed 45MB worth of bloatware applications: AdobeReader | Blockbuster_Stub_HTC | BooksPhone | BugReport | CityID | com.mobitv.client.nfl2010 | HtcFeedback | HtcResetNotify | Kindle-OEM-1.1.1.90750089-20100927 | LetsGolf2 | NewBayVault_4_3_0_8_Market | NFSShift | Skype_mobile.1.6.0.7.live | SlackerRadio | teeter | VCast | VCAST_Music_3_72_107 | VCAST_Tones_4_5_2 | VzNav | VzWBAClient | VzWBAService | VZWInstaller | VzwLBSPerm | VZW_MyVerizon | VZW_VCastVideos

  • Added support for /system/etc/init.d startup scripts.
There are no other changes. Just to be blindingly clear, this is NOT Virtuous; although a future version of Virtuous may be based on this ROM. Anyone building ROMs is welcome to use this as a base. Thanks to Football for continuing to provide us with the latest RUUs.

Disclaimer: This is a one-time release. Unless a problem can be identified with the changes mentioned above (rooting, deodexing, etc), it will not be updated or supported. In other words, use this as-is or find a ROM which uses this release as its' base if you would like support and/or expect to see changes.

Oh hell yeah....finally rooting me and my better halves phones today now that this is out...waiting for some Virtuous love (patiently)
 
Is there any chance you can post the APK for teeter? I play it every once end a while, but I want the rest of the bloat done.

Just get the game "aTilt 3D Labyrinth Free" from the market. With AdFree installed its way better than teeter anyways.

So I'm new to all of this stuff and Im trying to understand. I just got s-off and hboot from AlphaRev X....now wat do I need to do in order to root? Im kinda looking for a step by step here cuz I know absolutely nothing and I dont want to jack up my Droid!! And is this ROM GingerBread?? Somebody please help me!!!:'(

Go to XDA inc2 forums and look for the alpharev thread. You need to flash the superuser file in recovery next. I'm on my phone now so I'm not going to be much help for links. Sorry Guys. Let me know how it goes

I'm rooted running gingersense and very happy so far. Only problem I've got so far is Adobe Reader. I installed V10.0.2, and it crashes every time I try to open a pdf. It also crashes the same way if I just start the program and then close it. The message I get is "The application Adobe Reader (process com.adobe.reader) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. "
Any ideas? Btw, thanks everyone for all the help, I'm really enjoying the Android way of life!

Update - removed and reloaded Adobe and it works fine now. :-)

I'm also rooted running gingersense and I have no issues with adobe reader.

So if i have a stock phone with the new update on it i can install this and everything will be done?

Not if you installed the OTA or it came with GB 2.3.3 stock installed. You have to achieve S-Off, load ClockworkMod Recovery, and today that can only be done on Froyo 2.2. Eventually there will be a method for GB, but not today.

So I've been running with this ROM for a bit, and all seems pretty good. But this ROM seems to be running an older Froyo radio. There are a couple radios out there specifically for Gingerbread. Can I flash those? Anyone have any recommendations?

Which modem are you using? When I flashed the 2.18.605.3 RUU, I also flashed the corresponding modem (1.09.01.0622). I happen to be in a low signal area and have pretty weak reception. I'd happily flash a different modem if it meant I could increase my signal strength by 10 to 15 dBm.

I'm now using 1.09.01.0622. Have you tried any of the others?

Just what it came with, whatever modem corresponded to the shipping version of 2.2. Didn't stay on it long enough to evaluate. I'll have to try different ones and see if any make a difference.
