[ROM] rubiX Focused 2.0.1: UPDATED

Thanks. I'm already undervolting with jrummy's Droid Overclock, which I had before I got QuickClock RubiX.

What I like about quickclock is that it will actually find the best settings for your device by testing, rebooting and testing again. I haven't found an overclock app that does that but there may be some out there.

In my case I have a very picky DX and it "works" at 1100 but I still get the occasional reboot. Quickclock was able to determine that my devices's max was 1056.
running at that now and i'm stable as ever.

jrummy's droid overclock has other nice features and it's ui is slick.
I still use that too.

That's what I actually did. Then I used jrummy's app to set the governor from ondemand to conservative.

The first time I used it I maxed out at 1100, but I've recalibrated more than once since and it's continued to set me at 1265.

Love the rom. Silky smooth, super stable even with undervolt and 1.45 ghz. Brilliant work. I'm not a fan of ADW or the default launcher so I grabbed the gingerbread launcher from the market, so I'm happy :)

i have mine on low voltage and 1.35 Mhz and it is super smooth, although i am using jrummy's droidx overclock app too... well worth the 2 bucks i paid for it..

Max speed on rubix overclock 1463Mhz.... and also very smooth... was running at 1500 Mhz with a low lag count, but not stable enough

Here is a screen shot of my battery with moderate use.

Ya that is pretty impressive. I'm guessing your underclocked? possibly have an extended battery? I would do something like that but I charge my phone every night anyhow. Very impressive though.

Unclocked at about 1139 for most of this time and this is just the standard battery I have had since the first day the Droid X came out in July. If I used the extended battery, I'm sure I could get longer life w/ moderate use.

i'd offer that a big contributor to his battery life is JuiceDefender. it works very well. one potential downside is the fact that if you access your phone and the internet quite frequently, you'll notice a bit of a lag each time as you'll have to reconnect to the internet each time. if you aren't pulling your phone out of your pocket every few minutes to do that, or if you don't mind a few seconds lag each time, then try it. the free version works quite well, but i found myself inclined to donate for the full version after my battery life approximately doubled.

Quick Clock for rubix set me at 1.26 ghz, so here's what I just hit with that setting:

RubiX is insane.

So, I ran Quick Clock a few more times just to make sure I was calibrated correctly and my X settled at 1.362 Ghz. Here is my 1800+ quadrant score from this morning:

Does anybody have a good Rubix for Dummies thread link I could take a look at? I'd like to give it a shot, but I don't want to get myself into trouble =) I have the ROM bug...so addicting! By for Dummies (i.e. me) I mean customizing the ROM, which I have heretofore done with Apex Toolbox/Liberty Toolbox, etc. etc. I think it's a little different with Rubix - anyone have a good guide? The Terminal Emulator doesn't scare me, I just don't know what the commands are too well yet...having used Linux, it doesn't send me running scared, though.

Thanks in advance!

rubiX doesn't have a toolbox but it does have some commands for terminal

SCRIPTS: Credit to Fabulous, JRummy, Sephtin and myself.
adblock: block or view ads
apps: run the script for directions. If you choose restore, you must reboot after for it to take effect
backup: backs up all of your user apps. backup -bk is the correct way to run the script
calc: remove/restore the calculator
carhome: remove/restore the car home launcher
dxeye: remove/restore the DX LWP Please note that this is removed by default, and placed in /data/rubix run the script to restore.
email: remove/restore the email app
fixperm: fixes permissions (credit Koush)
gallery: switches between the 2D (credit to Cyanogen) and 3D AOSP Gallery
genie: remove/restore the news/weather app
office: remove/restore QuickOffice: Please note that this is removed by default, and placed in /data/rubix run the script to restore.
sys: write the system read/only (-ro) or read/write (-rw)
zipalign_apks: zipaligns all the apps in system. Unnecessary since this is ran on every boot!

those are some of the scripts

hope that helps!

EDIT: Open terminal, SU <enter> to gain root and then fire off the commands

Thanks to @Drod2169 for his continued work on this.

Please read and follow the install instructions.

YOU MUST BE ON 2.3.340 OTA FOR THIS TO WORK
ALSO NOTE: IF YOU INSTALLED THE NEW TRANQUILITY, THE TOOLBOX WILL INSTALL UNLESS YOU SBF BEFORE INSTALL. THIS IS TRUE FOR ANY ROM, NOT JUST RUBIX.

IF YOU USED THE NEW SCRIPT, YOU MUST REBOOT AFTER INSTALL AND INITIAL SETUP
This script runs on first boot to scan the SDCard rubiX Folder for apps. If they are there, it copies them to /data/app and corrects their permissions. Reboot for this to take effect.

YOU MUST wipe data before install.

Change Log for 2.0.1
  • Adjusted scripts for better functionality and less errors.
  • Added the option to set whichever governor you'd like on boot (NOT TESTED)
  • To do this: use root explorer to get to /system/etc/init.d
    long press on 01cpu
    select open in text editor
change the variables at the top
    ONDEMAND=1
    CONSERVATIVE=0
    INTERACTIVE=0
is the stock setting. To set one at boot, simply change ONDEMAND to =0, and one of the other two to =1
  • Custom ringtone fix (credit to kejar31)
  • Potential Programming menu fix (someone test please, i'm not sure)

Change Log for 2.0:
  • Sysctl.conf adjustments:
  • Changed vm.dirty_background_ratio to 70 from 60
  • Added rm /dev/log/main for extra performance/free memory
  • Changed NO_NEW_FAIR_SLEEPERS to NO_FAIR_SLEEPERS; this was a typo, as there are no new fair sleepers in the dx kernel already.
  • Cleaned up the /system/app folder

The following market apps were further removed:
  • Talkback
  • Kickback
  • Soundback

Governors
Added new Interactive and Conservative kernel scaling governors (credit Milestone team)
This is a Droid X first. These two governors bring a big difference to the table; here is what they do:
(Credit Cyanogenmod GITHub for this, source is here: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/cm-ke.../governors.txt)

Interactive:
  • significantly more responsive to ramp cpu up when required (UI interaction)
  • more consistent ramping, existing governors do their cpu load sampling in a workqueue context, the 'interactive' governor does this in a timer context, which gives more consistent cpu load sampling.
  • higher priority for cpu frequency increase, rt_workqueue is used for scaling up, giving the remaining tasks the cpu performance benefit, unlike existing governors which schedule rampup work to occur after your performance starved tasks have completed.

Conservative:
The CPUfreq governor "conservative", much like the "ondemand" governor, sets the CPU depending on the current usage. It differs in behaviour in that it gracefully increases and decreases the CPU speed rather than jumping to max speed the moment there is any load on the CPU. This behaviour more suitable in a battery powered environment. The governor is tweaked in the same manner as the "ondemand" governor through sysfs with the addition of:

freq_step: this describes what percentage steps the cpu freq should be increased and decreased smoothly by. By default the cpu frequency will increase in 5% chunks of your maximum cpu frequency. You can change this value to anywhere between 0 and 100 where '0' will effectively lock your CPU at a speed regardless of its load whilst '100' will, in theory, make it behave identically to the "ondemand" governor.

down_threshold: same as the 'up_threshold' found for the "ondemand" governor but for the opposite direction. For example when set to its default value of '20' it means that if the CPU usage needs to be below 20% between samples to have the frequency decreased. Basically, this means more speed and battery life control

Adjusted 01cpu for a better sampling rate if the new conservative governor is found.
Added script: gov
gov allows you to control which governor you use; ondemand, conservative, or interactive. The function is:
gov -ondem for the ondemand governor
gov -cons for the conservative governor
gov -inter for the interactive governor
Alternately, these can be changed via SetCPU or Droid Overclock.

Your phone can't take OTA updates with rubiX on it. So depending on what you want to do you could;

a) sit tight until a Gingerbread version of rubiX is released. Some rumblings that Drod isn't really focusing on the DX any longer but I'm confident that either he or someone else will do a GB port.
b) sbf or maderstock back and take the OTA update from vzw and lose rubiX but have GB
c) restore from backup take the OTA

I'm opting for A, personally. I did hear from twitter though that blur on gingerbread isn't half bad so I might be tempted to give it a shot, just to see.

Mmm...well for now I am loving Rubix...hopefully Drod or somebody else work on a ROM with GB on it for the X. That is if GB can be Root.
