[ROM] Serendipity

I can't install serendipity!!!

I am running stock Froyo, with a modified CWM to accept unsigned zips found here. I have tried flashing Serendipity 6.4 multiple times, and I've tried it with and without wiping everything. This is what happens when I select serendipity to install:

-- Installing: SDCARD:Serendipity.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
assert failed: getprop("framework.res.apk") == "3"
E: Error in /sdcard/Serendipity.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you fix it?

You didn't modify CWM, you modified the stock 3e recovery. You need to install CWM separately. See this post.

That does look like a download file problem. But if you have already downloaded it again, the chances of two in a row are pretty slim. It only takes about ten minutes if you include the flash back to stock in most instructions, so I would try from that "clean slate" and see how it goes.

All right... here's a really long story condensed (sorta)... I odin back to Eclair. I do a total wipe in CWM, even though there was nothing in the phone. I try to install Serendipity... and what do you know, it fails AGAIN. So now I reboot and try to retry download Serendipity. When I'm trying to put it on my internal SD, I notice that I still have all of my music files, pictures, etc. on there, even after several wipes. I think there might be something wrong with my phone when it tries to wipe everything. So I delete everything except the Serendipity zip and the update.zip that makes my phone go from recovery to CWM. I reboot into CWM, try wiping again (just to make sure EVERYTHING is gone), and trying installing Serendipity AGAIN. Guess what, it doesn't work! I decided to just restore my backup of Froyo that I made before this whole ordeal started, and I had restored to several times throughout this whole fiasco. There was no file to restore (I guess it got wiped out when I had deleted everything by myself.) I decide that I'm gonna reboot, reupdate to Froyo, and just forget about flashing ROMs forever. When I tried to update, it wouldn't let me click the update button, so I'm like, I will download Serendipity WITHOUT add-ons, and try to flash it one more time. When I was downloading the .zip file, I noticed something different. The one with add-ons was a 10.9 MB file (I didn't notice anything about it because this was my first ROM.) The .zip file without add-ons was A 127 MB FILE. So I tried installing this one, and what do you know, it works! So I'm [finally] running Serendipity 6.4, and I'm very relieved (and exhausted!). I guess something must be wrong with the online kitchen, cause the .zips it gave me didn't work. Hopefully, MikeyMike or ChaneM reads this and figures it out, and people who might have been having the same problem can now solve it. However, those add-ons are ones that I still want, and I was wondering if there's any way for me to install them manually.
The ones that I would like are:
-Samsung Email
-Samsung Video Player
-Samsung Voice Recorder
-Samsung DLNA
-Samsung Quickoffice
-Google Talk
-the Gingerbread battery mod (I don't even know if this is possible, cause it's not an app)
Thanks for all your help, ls377!!!

The add-on is meant to be flashed after you install serendipity. It's just a package with the apps and a script to install them to the right place. Data wipe doesn't wipe the internal sd, I think it only does the data and cache partitions.

OH... I feel really stupid right now. Thanks anyways. So do you download that zip and do install zip from sd card>choose zip from sd card and then install it or what? Thanks for all the help.

You're welcome, I can see now how that would cause confusion. But yeah, just install it from cwm.

I have a question that has to do with both Serendipity and the Gingerbread bootloaders, so I figured I would just post it here. If a Gingerbread-based Serendipity comes out, would I have to deal with that bootloader issue? From the little bit that I've read, I don't think you have to do it to flash CM7, so I was wondering if the issue is specific to the GR-9 ROM.

CM is a completely different base, so it works with the Froyo bootloaders. So far Samsung based Gingerbread needs the new bootloaders, so no, it probably wouldn't work.
