ARCHIVED: [ROM] Shell ROM v2.2 (Google/Froyo experience) 7/24/11

I mean no disrespect, but v2 of this ROM is really performing poorly on my phone. I wiped dalvik and cache before flashing over v1 of this ROM (which has worked perfectly for me so far). After rebooting back in to system, the phone was extremely unresponsive. Several times I had to remove the battery because neither the top button nor the home button would wake the phone up (neither normal nor long presses). When the phone was awake, the response time between pressing either a physical button or the touchscreen and the action taking place would be 5-10 seconds. Additionally, it would mostly alternate between not finding a signal and being on 1x, when I've always gotten consistent 3G at this location before.

I've tried reflashing over top (ie flashing v2 overtop of existing v2) to see if that would help, but it did not.

Is it normal that I'd get a hands-free activation message when flashing a new version of a ROM over top of an old one? I didn't think it was, but the last time I flashed a ROM I did a full wipe to go from Nameless or Reborn to v1 of this ROM.

Anyway, hopefully it is something specific to my phone that is the problem, and I'd be happy to help troubleshoot, but at this time I've reverted to my nandroid backup of v1.

Again, I mean no disrespect. I love what you do and the dev community in general and am glad that you are still working on this phone.

EDIT: It appears that I was a little impatient. If I wait about 10 minutes after a reboot, things seem to be settled down and working properly. I have to wait a lot longer after reboot for the phone to be completely responsive than in ROMs past, but that's not a big deal to me since I rarely reboot my phone. The last time I rebooted my phone prior to v2 of this ROM was in the beginning of May when v1 of the ROM came out.

You need to upgrade to vd and follow directions on the op

I'm already on VD (via LG updater), been on it since it came out in order to get rid of the "unable to shut down and then restart without pulling battery dozens of times" issue found with VC.

I went back to v2 to play around with it a bit more, and after a while it seems that things have stabilized. I rebooted again and things went back to being really unstable and choppy for about 10 minutes or so before stabilizing again, so the best I can see is that, at least for me, v2 of this ROM takes a lot longer after a reboot to be ready for use. With v1 of this ROM and other ROMs I've tried (nameless, reborn, and ThundeROM before that), once a minute or so passed after rebooting to allow for whatever it is that happens right at startup to happen, the phone was ready to use.

Anyway, now that I've let the phone settle again for about 10 minutes, it appears to be responsive and on 3G. Thanks!

Nick,

Any way to get the modified Pica kernel & your tweaks script in a separate zip to flash?

I'm still using Nameless V1 and it has been working quite awesome for me.

But I am interested in testing out the modified kernel & tweaks script to see what it does for battery life.

You know what, I was experiencing what you were talking about. I'm rebuilding the ROM real quick because I need to update gmaps anyways. Download the new build, it will be up shortly.

I have v2.1 uploading now that is running sexy smooth. Please flash v2.1 if you have v2 running currently. I guess I had some wacky parameters for the smartass governor that was making it work against itself. All is well now.

EDIT: up and running! Enjoy!

Whew...I thought my phone was possessed.

EDIT: I just installed 2.1, and it's awesome. I have seen none of the issues I was experiencing before.

How do I make that cutsomkb work on your new v2.1 6/24/11 release?
