So Th3ory apparently just uploaded the new TPax 2.2 on XDA.
[ROM] SHIFT3R 2.2 TPaX (11/03/2011) - xda-developers

Some questions, as I have never ROM'ed before, other than adding the 5.7.893 update to my stock Bionic yesterday.

1. I Forever Rooted, then used Bootstrap and Clockwork Recovery to backup the Stock ROM and the 5.7.893 ROM. Where are these backups stored.

2. Th3ory's process includes a full WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET -> WIPE CACHE -> FORMAT SYSTEM WIPE DALVIK. I am assuming that everything on the SD-EXT is safe, but everything else gets nuked. Is this correct?

3. If everything gets nuked, how is Forever Root preserved? Or does the Forever Root need to be reapplied?

4. Assuming the ROM backups are safe on the SD-EXT, is there any special process when I want to restore them? (Let's say for the official ICS release, or if I want to go back to stock or 5.7.893 in order to make it easier to install another ROM).

5. Admittedly I am a little confused when I see that people say they are "stuck" in a version, when it would seem they could just restore to stock, get whatever OTA updates they have missed, and then proceed from the "new stock" along their upgrade path. Is this not correct?

6. Any places I should check for accumulated files on the internal SD before I format? I haven't been particularly careful about what apps are putting stuff where. I've already transferred my contacts to the SD_EXT using Backup Assistant. (I guess I should double check.... I'm assuming that file will still be readable?) Any specific files that should be backed up separately?

I think that is all. I am interested to see what a new ROM does for the system!

Thanks in advance!

On your external sd card (sd-ext) in a folder called clockworkmod

Correct. Internal sd card is actually left intact too, from my experience

If you are on 5.7.893 now and have root, no worries, you'll be fine :)
4. Assuming the ROM backups are safe on the SD-EXT, is there any special process when I want to restore them? (Let's say for the official ICS release, or if I want to go back to stock or 5.7.893 in order to make it easier to install another ROM).
Just go into clockwork and under backup/restore, hit restore instead of backup like you did last time, lol. Should bring up your backups for you to choose from.
5. Admittedly I am a little confused when I see that people say they are "stuck" in a version, when it would seem they could just restore to stock, get whatever OTA updates they have missed, and then proceed from the "new stock" along their upgrade path. Is this not correct?
Its because since they did an update already which changed their kernals/radio, then flashed a new ROM without making a backup, they couldn't get themselves back to the stock look of the update they had already done, so new updates failed. You don't have to stress it if you got yourself to 5.7.893 already and backed that up.
6. Any places I should check for accumulated files on the internal SD before I format? I haven't been particularly careful about what apps are putting stuff where. Backup all your contacts to your main Google account. Go online to verizonwireless.com, sign in, find the backup assistant page, export all your contacts as a .csv file. Sign into your main google account and import the file there. That way you can sync your contacts from google after installing ANY new ROM. Th3ory's ROM does NOT have backup assistant in it so that won't work for you! Your Market Apps should automatically redownload and install themselves after you flash the ROM (remember to let it settle a few minutes before doing ANYTHING). But if you're worried about losing like your saved game data and stuff like that, buy Titanium Backup from the market and have it back up all your apps to a backup directory on your sd-ext that you create. Then after you've setup everything on the ROM, on an APP BY APP basis you can go in and have TiBu restore the data for games and stuff like that. DO NOT TELL TiBu TO RESTORE EVERYTHING, such as system apps, because those have changed with the ROM and you will cause problems. Just re-set those up on your own.

I think that is all. I am interested to see what a new ROM does for the system!
This ROM will do WONDERS for your system. Especially after you set up the Powerboost script. Enjoy!

Thanks in advance!

I read on another board that he will be re-releasing it late Saturday. He's apparently made the fixes, but wants to sit on it a bit.

I don't have any direct evidence, but reading between the lines from other comments, it seems he was not as miffed at the posters comments as he was from of the actions or comments by XDA mods.

That said, holy smokes are a bunch of the posters on XDA ungrateful, full of themselves, and rude!

Yes, Th3ory left XDA because apparently the place was out of control and garbage.. everything is just fine over at rootzwiki: TH3ORYROM - RootzWiki

Well.. theres no ROM because he took everything down after things got a little crazy the other day.. but it will all be up and running very soon, sounds like this evening based on some posts he's making.

EDIT: If you join in discussion or have any problems once the ROM is up, for the love of god, read the ENTIRE thread and see if your question has already been asked and even resolved. This caused a huge amount of unnecessary drama the other day. There's a button to the left of every thread that will take you to the first UNREAD post, no excuses :)
These devs put countless hours into making the ROMs and helping people, you can take a few minutes to read the entire thread before posting.

Hey I don't want to sound like a total noob but I have seen the word "Tpax and Tpac" in a lot of different spots and was wondering what that meant??
