[ROM][ZVJ] 2.3.3 DanteRom v4 [UPDATE] 10/14/2012

Alright, this is not a good solution, but for now it still can work for people who need at least something. Here's how I got "WiFi Tether" app to work:
1) In Device-Profile I selected "LG Optimus s"
2) in Setup-Method I selected "Netd (master)"

The problem with this approach: phone will reboot on stopping the tethering. I've seen a suggestion to un-check the "WiFi-driver reload" option, but it doesn't help. When I un-check that option then phone reboots not immediately after stopping the tethering, but approximately 2-5 minutes after. Don't know the reason for this, but could the the ZVJ baseband related.

Anyway, our upgrade eligibility is coming up in June 2013 and I guess Optimus will have to retire after that, but for the next 2 month my dad will have to get used to phone reboots after stopping the tethering.

But anyhow my phone runs 10 times faster now. This is my first time installing a rom and I think i've made a good choice.

Edit: Just curious, but is anyone else having a problem with No-frills freezing and rebooting the phone when you overclock?

Honestly, I couldn't find any more mods I would like to squeeze into this rom. At this point, updates are more along the lines of updating apps and such. Seeing as this phone is still available to purchase new at sprint, there are likely going to be users for atleast another 2 years. Glad you are enjoying the rom!!

I am working on an updated version of this rom. I actually rebuilt from the stock zvj base and dropped all my mods back in. I am updated to the newer version of amphedamines and all apps are updated at this time. Gonna do up a new boot animation I think. I did leave a wifi tether app out. I really need a user to find me a good alternative to foxfi. It bothers me that the wifi tether listed a few posts up causes reboots. Any thoughts?


EDIT: I have a nearly completed update ready. I basically am just waiting for a tether solution. I would appreciate some feedback on stability of this version. As near as I can tell, it is quite perfect with no issues. All apps have been updated, the amphedamines mod is updated to v2, the apps I had located within /data/app are moved back to /system/app, and this package is set to delete the updated apps from within /data/app to make it safe to flash over the last update. Please check QuickPanel to be sure all options you use work (especially Bluetooth as I cannot test), phone calls, text and mms as I cannot test these either. All that is really left is to find a wifi tether option. After that, I will be building this rom in an odex version (according to some this will give you a slightly quicker experience). Also, please give feedback and any opinions of my work.

Here you go, if coming from any other rom a FULL wipe is a must (use the full debug zip from the OP). It should be safe though to flash this over prior versions of DanteRom.

seems to work. Had to go into settings and change device profile to optimus s and setup method to netd. I havent done any extensive testing but I did connect to it with my pc via a bekin wifi adaptor and was able to browse and do a speed test on speedtest.net

Edit: this is the same method as premudriy posted but I havent got the reboots hmm... Anyone else try it?

I didn't say I was done developing for this. As long as there is interest, I will likely do a small update for apps and such and keep my ear to the wire for something to add that would increase functionality as well. But real development for gingerbread is done, so don't count on it.

As for no frills, it is likely due to the fact that I had renamed the apk, so it didn't overwrite it when it updated. The latest version of this rom has it moved to system where it works perfectly, and the same issue will not be present with future updates of the app.

The SIP stack is already implemented into Gingerbread, it's just a matter of getting it to work within the dialer.
In CyanogenMod the feature is built into the dialer settings. Where in Gingerbread (at least in this version) the feature isn't enabled in the settings but can be activated using a widget called "Sip Switch Widget" which gives you a settings menu from within the dialer (.sip.SipSettings) where you can set your account information and everything. When I set everything up and try to call out, the dialer gets minimized almost instantly and I can't access the interface. Wondering if this version of the dialer doesn't fully support it or what's going on.

What I would like is for the feature to be available in the settings menu and work with the dialer.

I took a quick look within Dante ROM, and it already has the needed sip XML within /etc/permissions. I will do a little more digging though. This could be a useful feature to have. No promises but I will try.

Just went through the whole process of root / install on my GF's phone.. wish I would have checked the end of the thread for the latest and greatest. I don't really have a need for tether, but I can try a few options. Freeing up internal memory is definitely a priority with this phone.

If I get motivated, I'm going to do a write up on how to get from up to date stock phone to dialed cheap phone. Most of the stickies on this forum are out of date, and information hasn't been compiled. Even the first post on this thread has somewhat conflicting info due to incremental updates over time.

Overall, this is leaps and bounds better than stock, and props to hlxanthus for keeping this up to date! I would have lost interest long ago, so I thank you!

Guys, I am still kinda waiting on some feedback on v5. As near as I can tell it is rock solid, but would like some other opinions. As a little bonus, below is the latest release of the new Play Store, version 4.0.25. This should also be safe to flash into any other Optimus S rom.

I like the new boot animation. Everything seemed smooth and trouble free for the time I spent on it. However I'm not running it as my daily.

If you need an immediate solution, You can use CDMA workshop. After you connect to your device; in the SPC/Lock section, click in the dropdown box and select "LG" then click "Read SPC" the Service Code should appear in the box on the left. If you don't know what all the other stuff does in this program DON'T MESS WITH IT!
