Can someone recommend me a good ROM?

Iam a complete noob and on my 4th day of trying to root my phone with no luck (and no aid) but from what I have been reading I need a ROM and I have no clue which one to get.

Something that lets me get rid of all of the locked items.

I would strongly suggest to go with CyanogenMod roms. They are completely awesome.
