Root and unlock bootloader (verizon)

I switched from blackberry to the note 2. On my blackberry i installed custom roms on it with ease. I'm just a little confused on the process to root and unlock the bootloader on the note 2. The operating system on my computer is windows xp. I have odin3 on my computer already but haven't had the stones to attempt anything. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
