Root before Froyo?

Okay so how many are trying the new X root before the Froyo release? Except for possible WiFi hotspot, I am not seeing the advantages. I had my Droid rooted for a long time, but that was because I wanted it overclocked and ROMs. Just not seeing a point right now with the X. Maybe you all can prove me wrong.

I am kind of in the same boat. Will we get the OTA update if we root now?

Just being rooted hasn't blocked OTAs in the past but if you start messing with system files and deleting things, it is possible that you won't be able to update. This has happened with quite a few people that removed bloatware and tried to update from .516. Also any updates that you accept while rooted will remove root.

If you don't want the free tethering and there aren't any of the 'root only' applications that are a must have for you, then there probably isn't any reason to root.

Rooting just to root doesn't make much sense to me

Just unroot before the update and all should be good... especially since they have the root/unroot windows program now.

I didn't use that root/unroot program yet but for what it's worth, I have successfully rooted and unrooted using the long method and then re-rooted again using just the X and the Terminal application with no problems at all.

rooted today with the windows program, but im not going to start tossing apps before froyo. just wanted wireless tether, drocap, and titanium

drocap is an app that lets you take screenshots natively on your device, and titanium backup is a program that lets you back up your apps to your sd card, as well as letting you freeze/remove pre-installed apps

Decided I don't need to root right now. Don't need tethering. Happy with the way all works. Would rather wait it out, and see what OTA Froyo brings.

Since it seems like Froyo is right around the corner, I just got done reinstalling my bloatware and fixing the permissions on them, followed by unrooting my device. Now patiently waiting for my update.

But Froyo isn't just around the corner. That screenshot was a terrible photoshop some dbag did to get everyone all excited. Having used BBs on VZW for years I know that it will be months before the bless any new update and that a leak will proceed anything official. Since we haven't even seen a leaked version of 2.2 for the DX like we have for the DINC leads me to believe the late Aug/Sep rumor to be more likely.

According to MULTIPLE sources, it has already started rolling out and the rumored date is next Friday. Right around the corner. I was not referring to the crappy photoshop jobs.

Your not on a BB anymore! Updates roll much faster with android! And how would there be a leaked version of FROYO for the x, when there is NO way to apply it!
