Root dangers/vulnerability?

I'm sure there are other threads around about this topic, but I wanted to get as much information as possible about this. I want to root my LG G3, possibly using IOroot (because it seems none of the other would work), in order to control what tracks my phone (that bothers me for some reason) and what background processes are running, because I like my battery to last and I really don't like that my phone is always transferring data, whether on Wi-Fi or 4G.
As far as I know, this will NOT erase any of my data, but I have everything properly backed up this time, so I am not really concerned about that part. What I am concerned about, though, is any possible dangers of rooting. I've heard that Google Wallet (which I do not use) has had problems, and my main concern is any of my personal or financial information getting out. I want to make sure that my information is just as secure rooted as it is not rooted. I also want to make sure I'm not any more susceptible to malware/viruses.

Hmm... I'm pretty good with computers, but I don't know if I want to do this. My main reason for doing this was to disable background services/apps. Is there any way to do that without rooting?

I'd really like to disable the messaging app and weather as they are always running. I'd like to disable voicemate, voice recorder, e-mail, gallery, LG health, smart notice, the stock keyboard and mcafee too, but at least they aren't constantly running in the background.

Unfortunately they can't be disabled in settings, the disable button is greyed out, really annoying!

which background service apps ?

Fred

Not sure exactly... whichever ones are constantly running. Facebook is one... I have no idea why that's always running. The watch ABC app is always running, too, for some reason. I have Zapper task killer, which kills them, then they come right back.

Just un-install FB and ABC apps, simple as that,
If you still use FB, and don't want to un-install it, you can simply log out of FB each time.
You can also uninstall the FB app and simply access FB with you web browser of choice, which is what I do.

Fred

Rooting will give you the ability to disable specific permissions like keep awake, location, etc PER app. It will also allow you to block or limit wakelocks which eat up battery. Rooting also gives you the ability to not only disable, but completely remove applications you don't want from the system directory.

There are a lot of advantages to rooting and I would fully recommend you spend time learning about it and the added safety features like full nandroid backups as well as the risks you take.

My main concern is unrooting to get future updates, is the process for unrooting as simple as rooting?

It can be simple, yes. But once you are rooted and have a firm grasp on how things are done, you will be flashing your own updates and not worrying about ones that come Over The Air (OTA Update).

I wouldn't want future updates anyway. Last time I got an update (5.0) I did everything I could to get rid of it. I had to flash the factory image, but it was well worth it. I hate Lollipop.
There's really nothing to worry about

Moto X 2014
As far as rooting it? I'm not the click-happy type, I'm just concerned about accidentally compromising information. If it doesn't do it itself (as if it isn't already) I think I'll be okay.

I would, but I like having the apps. I use Facebook somewhat regularly, and I have the ABC app to use on my Chromecast.

Nice way to achieve that would be to install Greenify, ingenious app that hibernates apps that are running in background, communicate with who knows who and emptying battery..
Greenify can work without root, but for fully automatic operation, root is required.
The easiest way of rooting G3, you can use One click root app:

Surely you'll want UX 4.0 when it comes to the G3? I personally love Lollipop, on the G4 the lockscreen notifications are fixed so look forward to that making it to the G3 too.

Thank you for that link! It seems every one-click root method I've read about no longer exists. There was stump and one other... I guess Google doesn't like that on their Play store. I'll probably do that.
I just downloaded that Greenify app, too. I'm going to explore that and we'll see what happens.

I've used that one-click script to root my D855, and it was to easy...
Greenify without root doesn't hibernates apps automatically, so you need to do it occassionaly..

Maybe this will work?

What lockscreen notification fix? What's wrong with them currently?
