I'm thinking about rooting my Droid, I've been looking for a good backup app, and I've come across titanium, which says it needs root access. I'm sure this questions been asked but can someone redirect me to a guide for how to root in order to use this app?

I would suggest rooting with DMupdater from droidmod.org...I would also suggest starting with there rom (which can be loaded with DMupdater) because it is pretty stable. After you mess around with that one a bit you can try other roms. Also, get Metamorph and go to alldroid for some themes.

I would say do the opposite and do it manually so you know what to do when you loose root or the automated process is no longer their

I agree with bizz but I do feel that by starting simple (droidmod) that you can progress slowly after. You have options so choose wisely haha

Is it possible to just keep the current ROM? I'm not displeased with it, or is it some kind of deal where once you root you have to install your own ROM?
