I just received the Sprint ota update to GB 2.3.5. Is there any method for rooting?

Ok so I have to revert back to 2.3.3 then root? Would I still be able to get the ota 2.3.5 update? Or would I have to flash a Rom?

Noooooo! I wish did some reseach before I updated my EVO to 2.3.5
I want to root it but I guess I'll have to wait until someone comes up with a way to do it.

it is now 99.9 percent official you can not root with the new ota update to 2.35, revolutionary will not touch it...

There is not way to root this new OTA, you will have to downgrade to 2.3.3 BUT, the phone won't even let you do that, i least not with me. Looks like we are stuck with this until a root is found :-(

Lesson learn, do not update future OTAs lol

There is a new thread over at xda explaining how to unlock your bootloader thru htcdev. And, flash superuser.

You have to use the HTCDev.com website to unlock the bootloader. Then you can flash a custom recovery and root the device.

So a friend of mine has been dying for me to root his EVO but our schedules never met up. He told me he updated his phone recently to 2.3.5 and ask about rooting. I explained to him that there most likely isn't a root method for this update and he nearly died....lol

By unlocking the bootloader and flashing a custom recovery, does that grant root access? Would be then be able to flash ROMs?

After you flash a custom recovery, you can flash superuser, which gives you root access, or you can flash any custom ROM, all of which will be rooted.

Its possible. I did it already. Wasnt a big deal. I unlocked the bootloader from htcdev.com & i flashed the recovery using the cmd command line to run it through since i was trying to load up the recovery from the bootloader just doing it the way revolutionary would but it wouldnt go through for some odd reason. But yeah its possible.

Thanks! The whole "unlocking bootloader" thing still confuses me sometimes. I've used a one-click program to root my EVO when I had it still.

Can confirm the following link works flawlessly with current update on an EVO 4G... and is fairly painless, honestly. Just get the files where they need to be ahead of time and its a few buttons and cmd prompt lines...

The attached rar is the few files needed from step 1-done. Obtained from the HTC SDK and the guide, this will make it easier on ya.

Works as of 2-4-12 - Root After Update
